Brevort
Dot Glashaw is happy to report that she has a new granddaughter, Rachael Lynn, born January 30, in St. Louis, Michigan. Proud parents Theresa and Derrick Jewel and equally proud sister, Jenna, welcomed her home.
Lara and Mike Gustafson, with Kristi and Morgan, entertained Karl and Lynn Yoder and family and Larry and Sharon Lasley for dinner at their home in Brevort Sunday evening.
Morgan Gustafson had her friend, Natalie Lee, for a sleep-over Saturday night.
Pega and John Kennedy, Tom and Joyce Gustafson, Sharon and Ken Smith, and Ernie and Paula Gustafson traveled to Traverse City this weekend to attend the Oak Ridge Boys concert. There was shopping, dining out, and other fun things to do. Ernie Gustafson had taken a ride around East Bay and spotted a person in a wetsuit, waterskiing on the bay. Quite a sight to see in February in the north country.
Pega Kennedy will be flying to New York City to meet a cousin, Beatrice Zak, then the two of them will be staying with Cassie Becker, who lives there. Many activities are planned, one being to be at the Today Show Friday morning. Unfortunately, most of the crew will be at the Olympics but if we look carefully, we will see Cassie, Beatrice, and Pega waving at us. It will be Pega’s birthday celebration.
Jane Shellsworth of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was a weekend guest of Mildred Gustafson.
Glen and Claudia Wiseman of South Lyon spent the weekend at the Green family cottage in Brevort. They were Saturday evening dinner guests at our home. The rest of the weekend was spent cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, plus some relaxing reading.
Mark and Matthew Jorgenson, the grandsons of Owen and Barbara Jorgenson, spent a week working in New Orleans. Mark is a freshman at Central Michigan University and Matthew is 15 years old and attends high school downstate. The boys call their grandparents often to tell of their progress. The group went down to New Orleans on a bus with an experienced builder. They have been shingling roofs and doing a lot of general repair work. The devastation is still terrible. Many of the FEMA trailers are empty, as people have moved on. There are still many people who need a place to stay, but due to governmental red tape, they cannot move into the trailers.
Gary Revord will undergo a procedure this week to remove cataracts on his eye. We pray for a successful operation. Gary does beautiful and intricate work making wooden bowls, some with as many as hundreds of pieces of different wood. As of late, he has been limited to sanding the pieces.
Susie and Russ Nesberg of the Whitetail Resort have had a busy weekend with the snowmobilers. Brian and Jeannie Rose at Jeannie’s Reach have also been busy, as have the Smoked Fish and Chapel Hill Motel. They all agree that it is about time.
Saturday evening dinner guests at the home of Denny and Jackie Rippett were Roy and Rachael Gibson of Curtis.
Thora Shepard and Melissa Foster were callers in Alpena Monday. Jack Shepard had a gang helping to shovel the roof at the cottage at Trout Lake this weekend.
Area trappers had a dinner at Rudyard Saturday night. Mark Spencer, the elder, said there were more than 50 trappers and their spouses in attendance.
Jim and Jeri Rose spent the weekend in Traverse City. They attended a 50th birthday party of a friend of their daughter, Jennie Rose. Jeri wasn’t quite brave enough to try karaoke, but enjoyed the dancing that followed. Saturday Jenny treated her mom and dad to dinner, and Sunday was spent shopping before heading home to white and snowy Brevort.
Happy birthday to Jeri Rose February 10, Lucy Eveshevski February 11, and Pastor Tari February 13.
Take care in walking about your neighborhood. There are some ice patches here and there. Don’t you love the longer days, and the seed catalogs?
