Tuesday, February 14, was Valentine’s Day. Hopefully, you and your significant other had a wonderful celebration. It was interesting to hear from others how they celebrated this special day. I love the dozen long-stemmed roses I received. Flowers say it all.
Members of the DeTour Hunt and Fish Club are prepared for their annual fishing tournament this weekend, Saturday, February 18, and Sunday, February 19. Saturday, the tournament time is from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. It continues Sunday from 7 a.m. to noon. You may register at the South Caribou Lake Road public access. All prizes will be awarded Sunday at the clubhouse later in the afternoon. Raffle ticket and other ticket drawings will also be Sunday afternoon at the clubhouse. Be sure to have your tickets ready, you might be a lucky winner of one of the great prizes being offered. Good luck.
The annual DeTour Winterfest will be Saturday, February 25. All festivities will be at the Village Hall beginning at 10 a.m. For the poker rallies, snowmobile and walking, registration will also be at the Village Hall.
The crafters will be at the hall from 10 a.m. to mid-afternoon. There will be new artists with their work on display for you to purchase.
If you’re making chili for the cook-off, have your favorite recipe in the hall by 10 a.m. Judging will take place at 11 a.m. There will be chili, hot dogs, and chili dogs to appease your appetite. An added treat will be “elephant ears,” prepared by the DeTour Homemakers.
The auction will start at 4 p.m. If you have any items you would care to donate, call Candy Postula at (906) 297-5885 to make arrangements to have your items picked up or delivered.
Have you drawn up plans for your snow sculpture? There will be prizes awarded to residents and to businesses. Let’s decorate the village and area with lovely sculptures. The winterfest theme this year is “Great Lakes History.” Use your imagination and create. If you wish to have your sculpture judged, contact Candy Postula at the phone number above or Barb Buschbacher at (906) 297-8075.
Swing your partner, dosey doe, at the Valentine’s Square Dance Saturday, February 18, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Village Hall. The dance will be called by professional caller Paul Williams, from Engadine. The cost of the dance, hosted by the DeTour Area Seniors Club, is $5. Refreshments will be served. All adults are welcome.
A thought: When you’re in a jam, a good friend will bring you bread and peanut butter.
