Brimley Stays Tied With Cedarville Atop EUPC

Travis Lynn Brimley Travis Lynn Brimley Brimley, 6-1 in the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference, maintained their tie in the league with Cedarville after a 51-45 decision over Pickford Saturday, February 12. Friday, February 10, the Bays made the long trip to Rogers City and fell to the Hurons 55-40.

The Bays have one conference game remaining on their schedule, with Engadine Friday, February 17, while Cedarville battled Pickford Tuesday, February 14 in their EUPC finale. If both teams win, they will be declared cochampions.

Travis Lynn scored 21 points, 10 rebounds, and contributed five assists in the victory. Cody Robbins added 12 points and three steals, and Brad Cameron chipped in 10 points and four steals.

Preston Parish notched eight points and six rebounds, and Mike Dubois recorded five boards for the Bays.

Matt Romatz tallied 22 points, Richie Boal charted 17, Pat Savoie marked four, and Jon Snider counted two for the Panthers.

Free throws played a factor as Brimley connected on 15 of 18, while the Panthers made four of six, but a fourth-quarter rally by the Bays emerged as the key factor after Pickford held a 32-28 lead going into the final period.

Matt Romatz Pickford Matt Romatz Pickford Pickford slowed the game down as the teams battled to a 1515 halftime score, after the Panthers held a 7-5-scoring edge in the first eight minutes and the Bays had a 10-8 margin in the second quarter.

The Panthers outscored the Bays 17-13 in the third quarter to take a fourpoint lead into the final period, before B r i m l e y turned the tide with a 23-13 advantage that included eight of nine, while Robins made four for four, Lynn three for three, and Cameron one for two.

" C l u t c h free throws and defensive intensity in the fourth quarter was the key for us," said Bays Coach Reg Robbins. "I was pleased with the way we came back after a disappointing setback at Rogers City Friday."

Poor shooting hampered the Bays as the host Hurons upended Brimley by 15 points during a non-conference game.

"After both teams scored 11 points in the first eight minutes, we made just one of 12 from the field in the second quarter and trailed 30-14 at halftime," said Coach Robbins.

Brad Cameron scored 13 points, Travis Lynn added 11, Steve Phillips chipped in three, and Cody Robbins, Derek Parish, Preston Parish, Seth Schofield, and Frank St. George tallied two points apiece against the Hurons.
