Trojans Improve To 13-1 After Topping LaSalle, DeTour

Jason Duncan Cedarville Jason Duncan Cedarville During the final regular season road game of the season, St. Ignace struggled in the third quarter as Cedarville turned a one-point halftime edge into a 80-59 non-conference win Tuesday, February 7.

Justin Baker led the Trojans balanced scoring with 16 points, Jordan Sweeney and Jason Duncan added 15 each, Cory Wellnitz chipped in 14, Jordan Duncan notched nine, Matt Hansen tallied six, Jim Eberts charted three, and Nathan Smith marked two.

Garrett Becker scored 16 points to lead the Saints, Kyle O'Boyle added 14, Jake Weiss notched 11, Zach Pierson chipped in 10, and James Peterson and Dan Olsen tallied two apiece.

The Trojans raced out to a 10-0 lead and increased the margin to 17-4 inside the three-minute mark and settled for a 17-8 advantage after the first eight minutes on the strength of triples from Jordan Duncan, Sweeney, and Baker.

Both teams suffered through shooting foes during the first three minutes of the second quarter before the Saints outscored Cedarville 13-5 behind consecutive treys by Becker to slice the Trojans lead to 22-21 at halftime.

The Trojans closed out the final four minutes of the third quarter with a 23-5 advantage to take a 53-38 lead into the final period.

St. Ignace opened up the fourth quarter with a 7-2 run to cut the Trojans lead to 55-45 and inside the three-minute mark closed the margin to 68-57, but that was the final run by the Saints as Cedarville completed the game with a 12-2 advantage.

Raiders in EUPC

Cedarville improved to 13-1 overall and 5-1 in the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference (EUPC) after defeating DeTour 8840 in a league contest Friday, February 10.

Cedarville High School celebrated Snowcoming and juniors Lindsay McLeod and Justin Baker were crowned queen and king.

Matt Hansen, with 19 points and five rebounds, and Nathan Smith, who notched 12 points, are the first two players off the bench for Coach David Duncan and the pair picked up the Trojans offense.

Cory We l l n i t z chipped in 12 points and five r e b o u n d s , Justin Baker tallied eight points and six boards, Jordan Sweeney charted eight points and five steals, Jim Eberts marked seven Duncan counted Nathan Klamerus points and Craig Wasnich added 12 for the Raiders, who fell to 2-12 overall and 0-7 in the EUPC, while Stan S t o c k i n g chipped in eight, John Miller notched four, and Tom Munro tallied two.

Cedarville led 33-17 after the first eight minutes and outscored DeTour 27-11 in the second quarter to increase the lead to 60-28 at halftime.

The Trojans continued with a 20-4 margin in the third quarter, before both teams scored eight points in the final period.

Trojans JV Remain Undefeated

Cedarville junior varsity remains undefeated at 14-0 after upending DeTour 68-34 and St. Ignace 81-53.

C.J. Paquin scored 19 points in the win over the Raiders. Kevin Thompson added seven, Sheldon Tassier chipped in six, Cody Thompson notched five, Jake Wellnitz, Scott McGreevy, and James Mitchell tallied four each, Luke Murray charted three, and Tyler Pitko and Wade Autore both marked two.

Tassier scored 17 points, Paquin added 15, Kevin Thompson chipped 14, and Mitchell charted 10 to lead the Trojans against the Saints. Wellnitz notched nine, Pitko tallied seven, Smith marked four, Murray counted three, and Alex McMaken recorded two.
