Engadine Rolls Over Wolverine in Non-League
Scott Butkovich Engadine Engadine stepped out of the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference to make the trip to Wolverine of the Northern Lakes Conference and came away with a 78-44 win Tuesday, February 7.
Scott Butkovich scored 22 points that included three treys and seven rebounds and David Derusha added 18 points, five boards, and three assists to lead the Eagles offense.
Jacob Swider chipped in eight points, seven rebounds, and four steals, Todd Midgyett notched seven points, Stefen Albright tallied six points and three assists, Brad Visser charted six points and three steals, Grayson Hood marked three, and Kris Kerbersky counted one.
"We shot the ball better in the second half and did the things it takes to win," said Eagles Coach Elmer Albright.
Engadine, 4-8 on the season, took an early 15-6 advantage after the first eight minutes and held a 2118-scoring edge in the second quarter for a 36-24-halftime lead.
The Eagles took control in the second half with an 18-11 advantage in the third quarter to increase their lead to 54-35 and closed out the non-conference contest by outscoring the Wildcats 24-9 in the final period.
"I was pleased with the way we attacked the basket in the second half," said the coach.
E n g a d i n e won the junior varsity game 61-30 as Chris Keller scored 10 points to lead the Eagles.
The Eagles will complete the season with road games at Brimley Friday, February 17, Rapid River Thursday, February 23, DeTour Friday, February 24, and Mid Peninsula Tuesday, February 28, and home contests with Grand Marais Thursday, March 2, and Pickford Friday, March 3.
