Saints JV Volleyball Wins Newberry Invitational
The St. Ignace Junior Varsity Volleyball team won the Newberry Invitational with a 7-3 overall record. Missing from photograph is Alyssa Rickley. St. Ignace junior varsity volleyball team, coached by Robin Kissinger, won the championship of the Newberry Invitational Saturday, January 28.
The Saints registered a 7-3 overall record en route to the title after splitting with Sault High in the opener 21-18 and 17-21, defeating Rudyard freshmen 21-5 and 21-17, and losing to Escanaba junior varsity 8-21 and 14-21 in pool play.
St. Ignace bounced back by defeating the host Indians 21-10 and 21-8 in the semifinals, and in the rematch with Escanaba, the Saints upended the Eskymos 21-18 and 21-14 for the championship.
Leading the way for the Saints was Brooke Garries with five aces, 21 sets, 18 good serves, 13 attacks, five kills, and five tips. Samantha Wright added five aces, 10 good serves, seven attacks, six sets, three kills, and one tip; Alyssa Rickley chipped in four aces, 10 sets, three good serves, three attacks, and one kill; Chelsea Bosley notched three aces, seven attacks, six sets, five good serves, and two tips; Marcie Rickley counted three aces, 12 tips, 10 good serves, eight sets, five attacks, and four kills; Jaimee Bloxsom recorded two aces, seven sets, seven attacks, five good serves, one kill, and one tip; Emily Sposito registered two aces, 10 good serves, 10 sets, and four tips; Brooke Allan contributed two aces, nine good serves, six sets, and two attacks; Amanda Coveyou tallied 17 attacks, nine sets, six kills, and one tip; Stacee Schnicke charted 13 tips, 10 sets, eight good serves, two attacks, and one kill; Jodie Langstaff marked 14 good serves, 10 sets, seven attacks, five kills, and two tips; Caysey Brown chipped in eight tips and three sets, and Alyssa Pechta added four attacks, two tips, and one set.
"Everyone played well and contributed to the win," said Saints Coach Robin Kissinger.
Saints Volleyball Program
To Host Pancake Dinner
St. Ignace Saints volleyball varsity and junior varsity teams will host an all-you-can-eat pancake dinner Wednesday, February 22, at McDonald's restaurant in St. Ignace from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Cost of the dinner is $4 per person.
