The snow sure went down quickly. I don't really care for this time of year. The cold, damp weather chills you to the bone, it seems. This is when the heat from a wood stove comes in handy.

Sunday, March 19, the Manistique Lakes Area Lions Club will have their all-you-can-eat pancake brunch and St. Timothy's Catholic Church will hold a bake sale. Both will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Curtis Community Building.

There will be a benefit auction and dinner, Sunday, March 19, at 2 p.m. at J.J.'s Airport Bar in Newberry, for cancer patient, Nora Rushford, to cover medical expenses. Monday, March 20, State Representative Steven Adamini will hold his monthly Manistique Town Hall meeting from 10 a.m. to noon in the Schoolcraft County Courthouse in Manistique.

The Community Action Agency is providing free assistance to low income senior citizens and families, with filing their 2005 home heating and property tax credit forms. For an appointment, or for more information, please call (906) 293-5621.

The Newberry High School Key Club would like to remind everyone to start saving pop tabs. Each year the Key Club collects the pop tabs to bring to the statewide convention, where they're recycled. The money then goes to children's hospitals. To find out where you can bring the pop tabs, call the Newberry School for information.

We have a special happy birthday to announce. It's the birth of our granddaughter, Mallory MaeDell Morrison, who arrived Saturday, March 11. Mallory's middle name is after two of her great-grandmas, and I have to say that she is just so precious.
