Happy spring to all. I'll take blue skies and sunshine, but wouldn't mind the temperatures a bit warmer. Here and there tulips and daffodils are shooting up small green tips.

Trinity Katrina workers are preparing for their trip to New Orleans. They will be on their way Thursday. We wish them a safe and productive trip.

Trinity Lutheran Church hosted the community Lenten service Wednesday. Worshipers gathered for fellowship and a potluck supper before receiving the Lenten message. The Trinity theatrical players performed a skit with Dave Movalson Jr. portraying the Lord and Dot Glashaw portraying Moses.

Ann Dyer received sad news this week. Her nephew, Wade Buschert, of Peyton, Colorado, passed away quite unexpectedly. He was in the locker room after a game of roller blade hockey, when a blot clot caused his death. He was 43 years old and leaves behind a wife and two children. He had retired after 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. Our condolences to Ann and Jim Dyer and the family of Wade Buschert.

Larry and Mary Ann First's grandson, Andy Vert, will be coming home from Iraq in eight days. Andy is serving with the U.S. Marine Corps.

Tracy Movalson and Pat Smith spent an all-too-short weekend at our home in Brevort. We celebrated Dave's birthday Saturday with guests Bob Flora, Jake and Mary Weiss and son, Jake, and Dave Movalson Jr.

Dick and Mary James, of Petoskey, dropped by Friday coming home after a trip to Wisconsin to see the new granddaughter, Bailey Fay James. Bailey's parents are Tim and Heather James. Bailey was born with a heart defect, underwent successful surgery, and is doing well. She looks very healthy with pink, plump cheeks. Congratulations and prayers all around.

Bob Flora, Dave Movalson Jr., and Gio Giordani were callers in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Friday. The guys dined at Bob's favorite Italian restaurant.

Dot Glashaw has been out on her snowshoes trimming the brush and trees on her property on Epoufette Bay.

Morgan Gustafson celebrated her birthday with friends at the bowling alley in St. Ignace.

Ernie and Paula Gustafson were at their cottage last weekend. The Gustafson family gathered at hunting camp Saturday evening for supper and the family had potluck Sunday at Mother Mildred's on Church Road.

After 35 years, Ernie Gustafson received word from a fellow soldier he served with in the Vietnam War. Pictures of the two buddies were sent via e-mail from Oregon.

The yellow finches are starting to don their summer raiment already.

Brian and Jeannie Rose put a candle on Dave's breakfast pancake Sunday morning and we all sang "Happy Birthday."

Family members from downstate have been in and out at the Jorgensen's this past week.

Pega and John Kennedy have arrived home from a trip to visit Dan and Chrissie Becker and family of Virginia Beach, Virginia. It was 84 degrees when they arrived and a trip to the beach with the grandkids was in order. Pega said even though the air was warm, the water was not, but that didn't deter the kids from getting wet. Pega and John did some painting and little chores for Dan and Chrissie while they were there.

Micki and Kurt Knowles traveled to South Carolina last week. Kurt attended a conference in the Myrtle Beach area and then drove on down to Charleston. They experienced car trouble and therefore had to stay another night (no hardship there, Micki says). They did a type of progressive dinner, in as much they would have a first course at one restaurant and then on to another for another course, and so on. One restaurant claimed George Washington ate there. On the way home, another breakdown caused another extra night to be spent. Weather through Ohio was nasty, otherwise the trip was wonderful.

Jim Rose's brother, Perry Rose, and his wife, Amy, of Saginaw, were visitors at the home of Jim and Jeri Rose last week.

Anne Hagen Anderson phoned Sunday evening. She is thinking of maple syrup time. She is usually here for that, but the grandkids' spring break isn't meshing with her schedule.

Happy birthday to Ann Movalson March 23. Ann and Sharkey are enjoying the Arizona winter. They have a home in Saddle Broke, near Tucson.

We send our good wishes to Beatrice Zak, as she will be undergoing surgery next week. We pray for a successful procedure.

It looks like we still have a week or more of bundling up to go outdoors.

Dave and I enjoyed the company of Cheryl and Joe Matelski at the Bob Buchholz scholarship dinner at Gros Cap School Thursday evening, March 16. It's a nice occasion to visit with old friends.
