The City of St. Ignace has been awarded a $137,500 Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grant to help pay for extending the Huron Boardwalk along the city's waterfront.
The project will enable the city to develop another 1,155 feet of boardwalk that will connect with an existing 5,000 feet of boardwalk along Lake Huron. The project will extend the existing boardwalk onto the old railroad dock and include building a fishing pier on the south side of the dock.
The St. Ignace project was one of 160 applications for projects and acquisitions around Michigan. Grants were approved by the Trust Fund Board in December and approved by the legislature Wednesday, March 15.
