Wilcoxins Announce Retirement From Engadine School District
Engadine Consolidated Schools will lose both its superintendent and its athletic director this spring with the June 30 retirement of Superintendent James Wilcoxin and his wife, school athletic director and teacher Sonja Wilcoxin. Both announced their retirements Monday, March 13, at a school board meeting in Engadine.
Mr. Wilcoxin has been with the school district for 31.5 years, teaching sixth grade for 19 years, serving as elementary principal for eight years, and serving as superintendent for four years.
Mrs. Wilcoxin has been with the district for 30.5 years, serving as a physical education teacher and athletic director.
"We're kind of undecided about the future and will take our options as they come," Mr. Wilcoxin told The St. Ignace News March 17, mentioning travel, warmer weather, and visits with family as possible future plans.
The couple has two sons, Justin, with his wife, Ketty, of Fairfax, Virginia, and Jordan, of Saginaw.
The school board is "considering various options" to fill the superintendent's post, Mr. Wilcoxin said, and will likely reach a decision about how to deal with the vacancy by the next regular school board meeting Monday, April 10.
