DeTour Area
Hopefully, everyone has completed their tax forms and mailed them by Monday, April 17, as that was the deadline. Fortunately, "last minute" taxpayers had two extra days, as April 15 was on a Saturday.
The weather this past weekend, Easter weekend, was cool but lovely, with sunny blue skies making an Easter egg hunt more enjoyable. It was great to see friends and relatives visiting in DeTour for this happy holiday.
It is hard to believe, but things are winding down for the school year. There is a very busy schedule between now and the first of June. First on the schedule is the school board election, which will be Tuesday, May 2.
This year, there are four candidates running for two open positions on the school board. The two positions were held by Tom Lehman and Susan Villo, who made the decision not to run for election again.
Also on the ballot is the 18 mills Non-homestead Property Tax. This tax does not affect your primary place of residence. This is not a new tax, rather a renewal that will need to be voted on annually.
Mark your calendar as a reminder to vote Tuesday, May 2.
Congratulations to the DeTour elementary/ middle school science fair winners who attended the Eastern Upper Peninsula Regional Science Fair at Lake Superior State University. They competed against other area schools.

Another important date is the Fine Arts and Science Fair, which will be from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 24.
Coming up really soon is the play sponsored by Kid's Cafe after-school program, "Annie Jr." After attending a rehearsal and seeing director Dave Rhinard bring out the talent in our young people, this is one performance I recommend you definitely do not want to miss.
