At the monthly school board meeting April 10, the board adopted a 2006-07 budget with reduced expenditures. The projected deficit in the 2006-2007 budget is estimated at $175,935. The educational programming that is being offered this year will be offered in 2006-2007. The board needed to make the reductions but is committed that Engadine Consolidated Schools will remain in Engadine and maintain a high quality educational program for the Engadine students.

The legislators and governor of the State of Michigan need to hear from the public about the issue of funding education. All students in the State of Michigan deserve to have an educational system that is fully funded.

The week of April 24 is Professional Secretaries' Week. Engadine Schools is fortunate to have two excellent secretaries, Lesa Baker in the elementary and high school, and Cheryl Adams in the main office. Both do an excellent job for the school district.

Kindergarten Roundup will be Monday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to

11 a.m. All children who will be five by December 1 should attend on that day. If your child goes to the Engadine preschool, please send him/her as usual. If your child does not go to preschool, please bring him/ her to the kindergarten room at 9 a.m. Children will have their pictures taken on this day. Vision screening will be done by the Health Department.

Parents will meet at 9 a.m. in the sixth grade room. All parents will be provided with information about the kindergarten year, ask any questions they may have, share concerns, and fill out the necessary papers.
