Dagmar Nayback Dagmar Nayback Dagmar Signe Nayback, 82, of Rudyard passed away peacefully at her home Friday, April 28, 2006.

She was born in Fibre August 17, 1923, to John and Aini Lydia (nee Laitala) Uponen. A lifelong area resident, she grew up in Fibre and Sault Ste. Marie.

She married Wilford Nayback April 26, 1942, in St. Ignace. After he served in World War II, they bought a farm in Fibre, where they raised their family.

Mrs. Nayback was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church in Rudyard, where she had served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent, youth leader, convention delegate, and vacation Bible school teacher. She was a member of the English-Wallis VFW Post 4905 Auxiliary, where she served as secretary and historian for many years. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge in St. Ignace.

Mrs. Nayback enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, oil painting, camping, flower gardening, vegetable gardening, and canning. She also liked to sing and to write poetry and song lyrics. She was an avid reader who completed crossword puzzles in ink since age 12.

She is survived by her children and their families, Lorena and Dale Quasius of Flushing, Gloria Nayback of Modesto, California, Susan Nayback of Rudyard, James and Marla Nayback of Sault Ste. Marie, and Martin Nayback and Sharon Maxwell of Rudyard; four grandsons, Tyson Nayback, Ethan Nayback, Christopher Bennett, and Barrett Bennett. She is survived by one brother, Reino Uponen of Fibre, and two sisters, Ruth Barens and Miriam Welcher, both of Rudyard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilford, in 1999; three sisters, Elma Schminkey, Esther Cowman, and Gertrude Augustson; and four brothers, Sulo Uponen, Martin Uponen, Edwin Uponen, and Oiva Uponen.

Services were Tuesday, May 2, at 1 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Rudyard with the Reverend Katheryn King officiating. Her family received friends at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in North Rudyard Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Lutheran Church. Reamer Galer Funeral Home of Pickford is serving the family.
