LaSalle's Davis, Cryderman Named Outstanding Athletes at Elks Invite

The Saints' Paul Davis and Kelsey Cryderman were named Outstanding Male and Female Athletes and the St. Ignace boys captured the championship of the Newberry Elks Track and Field Invitational Thursday, April 27.
Boys Standings: The Saints tallied 124 points, followed by the host Indians with 102, Engadine 53.33, Rudyard 40.66, and Gwinn 33.
Girls Standings: The Indians won with 84.5 points, followed by Engadine with 82, St. Ignace 76.5, Gwinn 75, and Rudyard 36.
St. Ignace: Davis swept the trio of dash events, with wins in the 100 in 11.46, 200 in 24.01, and the 400 in 53.78 and anchored the 800 relay team with Zach Pierson, Jesse Becker, and Ben Matelski that finished first with a time of 1:37.75.
Cryderman won the 200 event in 28.57 and anchored the winning 400 relay team in 55.85, 800 foursome in 1:59.10, and the 1600 group in 4:31.64 with Ashley St. Louis, Caysey Brown, and Stacee Schnicke.
Saints Boys: Derrick Clark placed in four events, winning the pole vault with a height of 10'6" and the high hurdles in 18.30 and finishing second in the low hurdles. In his first attempt, he placed fifth in the shot put.
Mario Calcaterra won the low hurdles in 46.99 and finished third in the long jump. Anthony Lester won the high jump. The 800 relay team of Kody King, Derek Marshall, Nick Montie, and Kody King won in 9:26.80. The 1600 foursome of Zach Pierson, Mario Calcaterra, Nick Montie, and Derek Marshall won in 3:52.71, and the 400 relay team placed second.
Jake Weiss finished second in the high jump, Shane Spring was third in the 800 run and high hurdles, and Derek Marshall third in the pole vault. Placing fourth were Zach Pierson in the 400, Nick Montie in his first attempt at the pole vault, Jesse Becker in the 200, and Kody King in the 3200 run. Kyle Smock took fifth in the 400.
Saints Girls: Kayla Gustin won the high hurdles in 19.15 and placed fifth in the low hurdles. Stacee Schnicke won the low hurdles in 54.27. Jaimee Bloxsom won the pole vault. Ashley St. Louis finished second in the 100, Amanda Coveyou third in the high jump, Chelcee Tiernan fourth in the high hurdles and 3200 run, Caysey Brown fourth in the low hurdles, Megan Gustafson fourth in the discus, Chelsea Bosley fifth in the shot put, and Jodie Langstaff fifth in the pole vault.
Freshman Kayla Gustin of St. Ignace won the high hurdles. Engadine Boys: Chris Keller finished second in the high hurdles and fourth in the low hurdles and high jump. Stefen Albright was second in the long jump and fifth in the 200. J.J. Troyer placed second in the discus and third in the shot put. Darin Emery finished third in the 3200 and fifth in the 1600. Scott Butkovich was third in the discus, Jacob Swider third in the 400, and the 800 and 3200 relay teams took third place. The 400 and 1600 foursomes finished fourth.
Engadine Girls: Elicia Derusha won the 1600 run in 5:49.31 and placed second in the shot. Shauni Rutledge won the shot put and finished third in the discus, and Jazmin Rodriguez won the discus and third in the shot put.

Rudyard Boys: Isiah Otten finished second in the 1600 and 3200 runs. Travis Clegg was second in the shot put, and the 3200 relay team took second. Josh Kaminski placed third in the 1600, Mike Chontos third in the 200 and fourth in the 100, and Rob English fourth in the 800. The Bulldogs 400, 800, and 1600 relay teams placed fifth, Dan Bartley and Owen McGrath tied for fifth in the high jump, and Brady Burby placed fifth in the long jump.
Saints Boys First, Pickford Girls
The St. Ignace boys finished first in six events en route to the championship of the 14-team Inland Lakes Invitational, and the Pickford girls placed second Monday, April 24.
The Saints tallied 109.5 points led by Paul Davis with victories in the 100 in 11.29 and 200 in 22.71. Derrick Clark won the pole vault with a height of 10'0" and third in the high hurdles. Mario Calcaterra won the long jump with a leap of 18'05" and was fifth in the low hurdles, and James Sayles won the shot put with a toss of 41 feet.
The 800 relay team of Jesse Becker, Ben Matelski, Mario Calcaterra, and Paul Davis won in 1:36.72. Jesse Becker finished third in the 200 and fourth in the 100, Derek Marshall was third in the pole vault and sixth in the 400, and Zach Pierson was fourth in the 400.
Pickford: Kip Cline finished second in the long jump and high jump and fourth in the high and low hurdles. Richard Gibson came in second in the 1600 and fifth in the 800. Scott Coullard finished third in the 400, Kurt Harrison fourth in the high jump, the 400 relay and throwing relay took fourth, and the 9/10 relay placed fifth.

The Panthers finished second with 80 points, 12 points behind the host Inland Lakes Bulldogs with 92. The Saints placed fourth with 70 points.
Panthers: Caitlin Mortinsen won the 400 in 1:05.45 and placed fourth in the long jump and 200 dash. Jessie Ledy won the pole vault with a height of 8'6", and Jasmine Ledy finished second in the 800 and third in the 1600 and 3200.
Stephanie Savoie finished fourth in the pole vault and fifth in the 500. Katie Jenkins was fourth in the shot put. Courtney Bruni was fifth in the low hurdles. Veronica Morrison placed sixth in the long jump. Renae Reich finished sixth in the high jump and low hurdles.The Pickford 1600 relay team took third, the 800 took fourth, and throwers relay was sixth.
Saints: The 400 relay team won in 55.75 and the 1600 in 4:35.74. The 800 team placed second, the 9/10 third, and the throwers fourth.
Kelsey Cryderman finished second in the 200. Jaimee Bloxsom was second in the pole vault. Kayla Gustin placed fourth in the high hurdles, Stacee Schnicke fourth in the low hurdles, and Amanda Coveyou fourth in the 400. Chelcee Tiernan was fifth in the high hurdles and the 3200 run, and Jodie Langstaff placed fifth in the pole vault.
