Pickford Girls, North-Central Boys Win 5th Web Morrison Invite

The track invitational is in honor of Mr. Morrison, who was elected to the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame in 1973 after guiding the Panthers to 25 straight U.P. track titles from 1952 to 1976. His boys hoops squad won 137 games with three district crowns, the girls basketball teams from 1951 to 1954 won 21 consecutive contests, and he registered 74 victories as the Pickford baseball coach.

Girls Results: The Panthers, coached by Sam Lightfoot, tallied 149 points, followed by Cedarville with 123, Rogers City, coached by former Pickford alumnus Mandy Bishop, recorded 83 points, DeTour 47, Brimley 44, PowersNorth Central 33, Newberry 23, and Rudyard 22.

Panthers: Caitlin Mortinsen was the division's only triple winner, with victories in the 100 in 14.10, 200 in 28.85, and 400 in 1:05.51, and she took second in the long jump, while Jessie Ledy won the long jump with a leap of 13'7" and the pole vault with a height of 8'6." The Pickford 400 relay team won in 56.75, the 800 took second, and the 1600 and 3200 placed third.

Jasmine Ledy finished second in the 3200, third in the 1600, and fifth in the 800. Katie Jenkins was second in the shot put and fourth in the discus, and Courtney Bruni was second in the low hurdles.

Veronica Gough placed third in high hurdles and fourth in the long jump. Renae Reich placed fourth in the high jump and sixth in the low hurdles. Stephanie Savoie was fourth in the pole vault, Cheyenne Cline was fifth in the high jump, Amanda Zambron placed sixth in the shot put, and Alicia Bjunes sixth in the 200.

Trojans: Donielle Landreville won the discus with a toss of 86'3" and Kristi Duman won the high hurdles in 17.96 to lead Cedarville. The Trojans 1600 relay team of Lindsay McLeod, Ashley Sweeney, Katie Bowlby, and Lauren Izzard finished first in 4:36.41, the 400 and 3200 relay teams took seconds, and the 800 foursome placed third.

Billie McLeod finished second in the 200 and 400 dashes, Rebecca Bickham was second in the pole vault, and Megan Hill placed second in the high hurdles. Caitlin Wright was third in the low hurdles and fourth in the high hurdles. Katie Bowlby made third in the long jump, Ashley Sweeney fourth in the 1600 and sixth in the 800, and Kara Griffin fourth in the low hurdles. Rosemary Hitchens placed fourth in the 200, Rhianna Milligan fifth in the discus, and Jessie Duncan sixth in the 1600 and 3200 runs.

Raiders: Danielle Weiman placed third in the 100 and 200 dashes. Amber Burton finished third in the high jump and fourth in the 3200. Pia Hoge was third in the shot put. The DeTour 400 relay team took third, the 800 team fourth, and the 1600 team sixth.

Christina Stocking finished fifth in the high and low hurdles. Korin Goetz was fifth in the shot put. Liz Lehman placed sixth in the high hurdles, and Neeske Beckman sixth in the discus.

Bulldogs: Alisha Thompson finished second in the pole vault. Brittany Hoolsema was third in the 3200 and fourth in the 400, and Meghann Mitchell fifth in the 200 and sixth in the 100.

Boys Results: The PowersNorth Central Jets, coached by Jerry Root, a former Cedarville teacher, coach, and sportswriter with The St. Ignace News/Weekly Wave, scored 133 points, followed by Newberry with 100, Pickford 74, Brimley 73, Cedarville 65, Rogers City 50, Rudyard 21, DeTour 9, and Mackinac Island 2.

Pickford: Richard Gibson finished second in the 1600 and 3200 runs. Kip Cline was second in the high jump, third in the low hurdles, and fourth in the high hurdles. Scott Coullard placed second in the 400. Kurt Harrison was third in the long jump and fourth in the pole vault. Toby Kibble was fourth in the pole vault. The Panthers 3200 relay team placed second, the 800 and 1600 foursomes finished fourth, and the 400 group took sixth.

Brimley: The Bays 800 relay team won in 1:38.67, the 400 and 1600 foursomes placed second, and the 3200 group finished third. Jordan Dillon scored second in the high hurdles and fourth in the low hurdles. A. Freedman was second in the 100, Harlan Chartrand was third in the 400, and Derek Parish was fourth in the shot and sixth in the discus. Jerrod Dillon placed fourth in the 200 and sixth in the 100. Travis Lynn was fifth in the 100 and 200, and Ryan Holdsworth sixth in the high hurdles.

Cedarville: Justin Baker won the high hurdles in 17.01 and the low hurdles in 43.82 to lead the Trojans, while Ryan Duman placed second in the long jump and third in the high jump. Kevin Thompson placed second in the pole vault, Jason Duncan placed third in the 800, and Peter Treleaven fifth in the 400. Clayton Meyers finished fifth in the 800, and Chad Schlosser sixth in the 3200. The relay teams took fourth in the 400 and 3200 events, and fifth in the 800 and 1600.

Rudyard: Travis Clegg finished second in the shot put, Mike Chontos third in the 200 and fourth in the 100, and the Bulldogs 400 relay team took fifth.

DeTour: Stan Stocking finished second in the 800 and Max Peterson sixth in the long jump.

Mackinac Island: Sam Kamphuis placed sixth in the 1600 and Robert Chambers sixth in the 200.
