Brevort
There was frost on the roof this morning. It was 27 degrees at the home of Jim and Jackie Rogers, north of the village. There are lots of blueberry blossoms in the blueberry fields around the area. Hopefully, the frost didn't blight them.
Bob and Kay Beasley were at their summer cottage on Wildwood Lane last weekend.
Sharon Chalmers is visiting her sister in Bloomfield Hills this week.
Get well wishes go out to Forest "Evie" Evashevski. Evie is to have surgery Monday morning. He and his wife, Ruth, are the parents of Tom and John Evashevski, both of St. Ignace.
Lara and Mike Gustafson, Tom and Joyce Gustafson, Pega and John Kennedy, and Sharon Smith attended the music recital at the Middle School Saturday. Morgan and Kristi Gustafson are both students there and played the piano. Other family members attending were Sharron and Larry Lasley and Mallory LaLonde of St. Ignace.
Tom and Joyce Gustafson celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary May 2 in Virginia with family.
Mary Beth and Fred Jasmund of Mt. Clemens celebrated Fred's 50th birthday at their cottage in Brevort. Happy birthday, Fred.
While driving down to the beach Sunday, I noticed a lone morel mushroom by the side of Brian and Jeannie Rose's driveway. I didn't pick it as I thought maybe next year there would be more, but I really think Brian should pick it and shake it under the apple trees.
Our old friend and former neighbor, Bernie Eisler, was in the area Sunday. He and his friend, Rosalie, stopped by to visit Owen and Barbara Jorgensen. Before leaving town they dropped by Jeannie's Reach and had a visit with Brian and Jeannie Rose.
Mike Jorgensen has been up periodically to work on the sailboat at the St. Ignace Marina.
Pega and John Kennedy's daughter-in-law, Chrissy Becker, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, has been with her sister, whose fiveyear old daughter is dealing with cancer. Her name is Lee Anne Morse. She lives in Cheboygan and needs our prayers.
Susie and Russ Nesberg attended the Mud Run at the Allenville fairgrounds Saturday, May 20. The Nesbergs sponsored a truck for the event. It sounds like an exciting sport to watch. The next one will be in July. Watch The St. Ignace News for further details.
Andy Movalson and his friend, Kevin, spent a few days at the Movalson cottage to do some serious fishing. They did hook a nice rainbow, which Uncle Dave promptly smoked.
Dave Jr. took in the race at Kinross Friday evening, May 19. There are different categories for the racing cars.
Lee Quigley is back home from her winter home in Fort Myers, Florida. She visited with friends in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Sunday and Monday.
Jackie and Denny Rippett have been at their condominium in Waterford this past week. They're home now and Jackie is getting reports ready for the annual condominium meeting for the owners at the Brevort condominiums. They will meet this coming weekend. Denny and Jackie attended a retirement party in Adrian for Methodist ministers last week. Their granddaughter, Kara Sokol, formerly of Marquette General Hospital's Department of Community Relations and Marketing, has accepted a position with the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce. She will be co-coordinating programs for the county, which includes tourism business. Congratulations, Kara.
Jerri Rose and I were delegates to the Northern Great Lakes Synod Convention at Finlandia University in Hancock Thursday, May 18, through Saturday, May 20. Approximately 300 delegates, pastors, council members, and visitors were there for the proceedings. The running of the church is a very time-consuming business, but our synod has very capable and talented people at the helm. Our new member of the synod council is Kirt Stage-Harvey. Congratulations, Kirt, and we wish you well on your new responsibilities.
It wasn't all work and no play, by which I mean there were seminars we could go to and, of course, we had to eat and we visited with old friends and new acquaintances. It was great to see Pastor Ingmar Levine of Manistique, Pastor Ernie Ness, Pastor John Magnuson, and Pastor George Kaiser. We sat with the delegates from Zion-Allenville, Gloria and Rick Weber, and the delegates from Cedarville, Bob and Charlene Holland. It was a long ride to Hancock, but well worth it. Jerri and I discovered we could be fortified with English Toffee latte. It's a good thing we had to negotiate the many steps to get to the various events so we could justify yet another sinfully delicious coffee concoction.
Jamica Diamond and Gary Revord have the old schoolhouse shop on Ozark Road (soon to be Schoolhouse Road) open for business. In whatever spare time she has, Jamica has been working with friends doing landscaping in and near Harbor Springs.
Enjoy Memorial Day. Hope it's warm, and not buggy. Think about our people in the military.
