Chad Schlosser Named Valedictorian, Wesley Dixon, Ryan Duman Salutatorians at Cedarville High
Chad Schlosser Chad Schlosser has been named valedictorian of Cedarville High School's Class of 2006. Wesley Dixon and Ryan Duman are the class salutatorians. They will lead the class in commencement exercises Sunday, May 28, at 2:30 p.m. at the Duncan Gymnasium in Cedarville.
Chad Schlosser, 18, is the son of Jim and Becky Schlosser of Cedarville. His siblings include Jonathan, 20, Karissa, 15, Matthew, 13, Bethany, 11, and Leila, 7. He has accumulated a 3.960 grade point average.
He plans to pursue a career in business management, studying at Michigan State University in East Lansing, because he has interest in the field and experience, he said. He works part-time in Cedarville as the owner of his own custom furniture business, Adirondack Furniture by Schlosser Construction. He is a member of the First Union Church youth group in Cedarville.
At Cedarville High School, he was a member of the National Honor Society. One of the area's top runners, his athletic involvements included running for Cedarville's varsity cross country and track teams. He is also on the Cedarville High golf team. He enjoys skiing, golf, sailing, and beach volleyball.
Wesley Dixon He was named a 2006 Eastern Upper Peninsula Principals Awards winner, and has been on the Honor Roll and Academic AllState team for athletic and academic accomplishments. He is proud of helping the Cedarville cross country team win two Upper Peninsula state championships. He was named to the All-Upper Peninsula, All-State, and Upper Peninsula Dream teams for his participation in cross country.
Wesley Dixon, 18, is the son of Todd and Laurie Reid of Cedarville. He has a 3.952 grade point average, and has been on the Honor Roll with all As for all four years of high school. He received outstanding student awards for government, English 11, Spanish I, and advanced biology classes, and he received a Presidential Academic Award. He is a member of National Honor Society.
He works part-time at Cattail's Cove restaurant in Cedarville, and he enjoys playing basketball in his spare time.
He plans to attend Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids to obtain an accounting degree.
Ryan Duman, 18, is the son of Ralph and Kathy Duman of Cedarville. He has a sister, Kristen, 16, and two brothers, Peter, 14, and Patrick, 12. His grade point average is 3.952.
Ryan Duman He wants to be a surgeon in the future, and his post-secondary school plans include attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Prompted by his love of science, he believes the medical field will be an "excellent way to directly help people."
At Cedarville High, he is a member of the National Honor Society, is on the Cedarville track team, and was formerly a member of the basketball team. He won awards for most improved track and basketball player. In track, he set Cedarville High School's sixfoot, four-inch high jump record. He has been on the Honor Roll all four years of high school, and he has received a Presidential Academic Award, and outstanding student awards in United States history, government, geometry, computer programming, Spanish I, advanced biology, and English.
He is also a member of the Les Cheneaux Area Boy Scouts, and has attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He enjoys sailing, skiing, water sports, and backpacking. He has worked part-time for Cedarville Marine in Cedarville, and he is a member of the Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church youth group in Hessel.
The Class of 2006 colors are coral and light blue. The class flower is the orchid and the class song is "Swing Life Away," by Rise Against.
The class motto, by Mark Twain, is "20 years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bow lines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
