Army Specialist Andrew Waits Remembered at St. Ignace School
Above: The fourth grade class commemorates a tree in memory of Andrew Waits, who corresponded with the class during his tour of duty in Iraq. The Andrew Waits memorial tree, a flowering crab tree, is planted just left of the main entrance to the St. Ignace Elementary School. Attending the ceremony were his mother, Diane Waits, a 1969 graduate of LaSalle High School and now a resident of Waterford, his uncle, Paul Mackin, his grandparents, Ralph and Therese Mackin-Oja, who reside in St. Ignace, and Patrice Mackin's husband, Eugene Elmer. At left: St. Ignace fourth grade teacher Patrice Mackin (at right) and her students twist on red, white, and blue star ribbons on the Andrew Waits memorial tree, which was dedicated to her nephew, an Army specialist who was killed in action in Baghdad, Iraq, April 13. Spc. Waits' mother, Diane (nee Mackin) Waits, is pictured on the left. |
