St. Ignace

The veterans of Mackinac County have made plans for this year's Memorial Day services, which will be Monday, May 29, at 11 a.m. on the lawn of the Mackinac County Courthouse. In case of inclement weather, the services will be held inside the courthouse.

Billie Clark of Moran will lead the ceremonies and guest speaker will be State Representative Gary McDowell. Veterans from several service organizations and war periods will be represented.

Following the ceremonies, the public is invited to the St. Ignace VFW Post for coffee and doughnuts.

Les Cheneaux

The Law-White Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ladies Auxiliary of Post 7958 and American Legion of Post 323 of Pickford will lead public Memorial Day services at Cedar Cemetery in Cedarville Monday, May 29, at 11 a.m.

The VFW and Ladies Auxiliary will be joined by the Cedarville High School Band, which will perform traditional, patriotic music.

Mackinac Island

Mackinac Island pays tribute to all veterans with Memorial Day events planned for Sunday, May 28, and Monday, May 29.

A service will be held Sunday, May 28, at Trinity Episcopal Church at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome to participate with special hymns and a reading of names.

Mackinac State Historic Parks will perform a tribute in honor of the soldiers who served at Fort Mackinac beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday, May 29. Historical interpreters wearing the uniform of the U.S. Army 23rd Regiment of Infantry that served at Fort Mackinac in the 1880s will march from the north sally entrance of the fort along Garrison Road to the Post Cemetery. Soldiers will perform a brief ceremony and salute at the cemetery before returning to the fort.

American Legion Post 299 Commander Paul Wandrie and Mayor Margaret Doud will speak at Veterans Memorial Park off Market Street at 11 a.m., and at noon the flag will be raised to full staff.

Engadine

A public Memorial Day observance is planned at the Mill Pond Park in Engadine Sunday, May 28, at 1:30 p.m. by Boucha-Draves-Raski VFW 8372 and Fenely McNeil Nesbit American Legion 290.

Pickford

The Law-White Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ladies Auxiliary of Post 7958 and American Legion of Post 323 of Pickford will hold joint public Memorial Day services at Glen Gough Memorial Park in Pickford Monday, May 29, at 10 a.m.

The VFW and Ladies Auxiliary will be joined by musicians from the Pickford Junior High School and High School bands.
