Saints Boys Set 800 Relay School, Meet Record

The Saints record setting 800-meter relay team includes (from left) Jesse Becker, Derrick Clark, Zach Pierson, and Paul Davis. The St. Ignace boys 800-meter relay foursome of Jesse Becker, Derrick Clark, Zach Pierson, and Paul Davis set a new LaSalle High School (LHS) record and established a meet mark during the running of the 50th Annual Petoskey Kiwanis Relays Tuesday, May 16.

The Saints were timed in 1:34.4, breaking the LHS mark of 1:34.6 set by David Brown, Jo Jo Visnaw, Brad Ledy, and Sean McLafferty in 1993, and breaking the meet time of 1:35.3 held by a foursome from Boyne City in 1994.

St. Ignace finished second in the combined boys/girls meet at Petoskey in the White Division among Class C schools.

The St. Ignace girls 800-meter relay team of Stacee Schnicke, Caysey Brown, Ashley St. Louis, and Kelsey Cryderman finished first with a time of 1:55.0 and the mixed sprint-medley relay foursome of Kelsey Cryderman, Ashley St. Louis, Jesse Becker, and Paul Davis placed first in 1:17.70.

Individually Paul Davis won the 100-meter dash in 11.40 and Page Paul competed in the Neidhamer 1600-meter run with a time of 6:50.6.

Placing second in the relay events were the boys 400-meter relay squad of Ben Matelski, Kyle Smock, Jesse Becker, and Paul Davis, the mixed 1600-meter relay team of Stacee Schnicke, Amanda Coveyou, Mario Calcaterra, and Zach Pierson, and the girls 400meter relay group of Stacee Schnicke, Caysey Brown, Ashley St. Louis, and Kelsey Cryderman.

Finishing third were the mixed 1200-meter relay team of Caysey Brown, Kelsey Cryderman, Mario

Calcaterra, and Jesse Becker, mixed shot put relay team foursome of Megan Gustafson, Chelsea Bosley, James Sayles, and Derrick Clark, and the mixed high jump relay team of Amanda Coveyou, Ashley St. Louis, Anthony Lester, and Jake Weiss. Placing fourth was the mixed 3200-meter relay group of Page Paul, Amanda Coveyou, Nick Montie, and Derek Marshall.

Richard Gibson was the only triple-winner during the regionals as the Panther won the 800, 1600, and 3200-meter runs.
