The St. Ignace baseball team swept a Straits Area Conference doubleheader from Newberry, 8-4 and 12-2, Monday, May 15 at the Kiwanis Sports Complex, to highlight their last week of action.

The Saints recorded 31 hits and 20 runs in the two victories over the Indians as Kyle Spencer allowed just three hits and earned the first win. Lewie Mullins pitched St. Ignace to a victory in the nightcap, allowing just five hits.

Dan Olsen led the offense in the opener with two hits and scored two runs. Zach Schroeder, James Peterson, and Lewie Mullins notched two hits and one run. Kyle Spencer chipped in two hits. Shawn Cowell charted one hit and one run.

Tyler Huskey scored two runs, and Kyle O'Boyle and Jeffrey Gamble marked one hit each.

The St. Ignace team scored one run each in the second and third innings, two in the fourth, and four in the fifth.

The Saints dropped games to Superior Central (SC) 11-6 and to the host Vikings 10-5 during the Posen Tournament Saturday, May 20.

In the opener against the Cougars, both teams scored one run in the first and two in the second before SC scored three in the third and five in the fourth. The Saints closed out their scoring with three in the sixth.

Tyler Huskey recorded two hits and scored one run. Zach Schroeder and Kyle Spencer chipped in one hit and one run. James Peterson added one hit, and Michael Gamble, Shawn Cowell, and Jeffrey Gamble scored one run each.

During the opener, the Saints trailed 4-0 going into the bottom of the third inning before scoring three runs in the third inning, adding five runs in the fourth, and chipping in one in the fifth to post the win.

During the second game with the Comets, Misti Gamble and Sam Wyers recorded one hit and scored one run each, Jenny Massaway notched two hits, and Tabitha Wright and Marcie Rickley registered one hit apiece.

The Saints scored single runs in the second and sixth innings, while the Comets scored two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth.
