There are black flies, mosquitoes, and no-seeums, all the normal things that come with the nice warm weather we've been having.

Anne Hagen Anderson of Bemidji, Minnesota, reported at their Hamm Lake cottage over Memorial Day weekend there were hundreds of dragonflies buzzing around their picnic area and not a mosquito or black fly present. The next day the dragonflies were gone and the pesky bugs entered the scene.

Anne says the dragonflies did not land on any food dishes, as they were probably filling up on mosquitoes and such.

Dave and I motored to Ohio over Memorial Day to attend my 50th class reunion. It was a good time visiting with all of my old friends. We were all friends, as there were only 14 in my class, so we were all pretty close.

Pat and Gordon are staying at their summer home on Wildwood Lane. The Knights are the parents of Amy Roloff, who was showcased on a television documentary with her husband, Matt, and their family. Amy and Matt are little people and have twin boys, one little and one of average height. They have other average-height children in their family.

The O'Boyles celebrated Kyle's graduation with family and friends over Memorial Day. Janice said the yard looked like a campground with all the tents and campers of guests. Katelyn O'Boyle was home from Grand Rapids. She attends college there, majoring in conservation management and environment biology.

Bob Jarzinka is busy planting his garden. His vegetables and flowers are always spectacular. He has a very tall Chinese rhubarb that is impressive.

Jamica Diamond and Gary Revord have installed new showcases in their shop on Ozark Road. Visitors over the weekend were from the Fort in Mackinaw City.

Ken Smith called Sharon from Bogota, Columbia, assuring her he arrived safely. Kenny will be working in Columbia this summer.

Lee Foster is in Billings, Montana, at Flat Head Lake Ranch. The guest ranch has been in the same family for 45 years. They raised buffalo as well as catering to ranch guests.

Julie Cherry, who lives near Bozeman, Montana, was our guest last week. She and Tracey were classmates at Ferris State University years ago and have remained close friends ever since. Julie calls herself a starving artist. After viewing some of her oil paintings, I'm confident she will be a huge success. She has a one-woman show coming up this fall.

Joan Spencer and Tammy Spencer attended a horse show last week. Joan's granddaughter, Jenny Humphries, was a participant in the show, riding with English and Western saddles. Joan said it was 92 degrees.

Midsummer pole raising is on schedule, June 18. We will tie leaves at 3 p.m., raising the pole at 4 p.m. The Marquette Folk Dancers will perform until around 5 p.m. then a potluck dinner will begin. Everyone is welcome. Bring your favorite dish and table service.

Happy birthday to Tyler Barthelemy Friday, June 2. He is 12 years old.

Hello to a former Brevorter, David Gonyeau, who lives in Sault Ste. Marie with his wife, Kathy. Apparently he is a faithful reader of The St. Ignace News. He told Dave Movalson Jr. he missed the Brevort column last week.

Dave and I were the guests of Rick and Gloria Weber Sunday evening. Gloria can call a male swan to their dock on Brevort Lake, and feeds him Ritz crackers from her hand. His mate is nesting within sight a short distance away. The swan pair have been frequenting the area for quite a few years.

Dave Jr. has observed a loon family on his beach walks east of Brevort. This morning I heard the distant call of the loon.

Take care and enjoy the weather.
