Marian Pladies Marian Pladies Marian Gex Pladies, 88, of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, vacationed with her family in the Les Cheneaux area for more than 50 years, was known for her acting skills in community theater, and was an active volunteer for several causes. She died suddenly Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at her summer home on Haven Island in Hessel.

She was born April 26, 1918, in Newport, Kentucky, to Albert and Pallas (nee Duncan) Swope.

She grew up in Newport and after high school went to work for a CPA firm in Cincinnati. It was there she met her husband, William John Pladies, and they were married May 30, 1941, in Newport.

Mrs. Pladies and her family have vacationed in the Les Cheneaux area for more than 50 years. In 1964, they purchased Haven Island, where she loved to come in the summer.

Mrs. Pladies was very active in the local theater group in the Cincinnati area and was well known for her acting ability in the Fort Thomas Village Players. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Thomas.

She loved to play bridge, drive her boat, and to garden, growing both flowers and vegetables. She was very active in her daily life. Mrs. Pladies loved cats and dogs and always had at least one pet.

Until recently, she was active in volunteer work at the Cincinnati Public Library, Krohn Conservatory in Cincinnati, St. Luke Hospital in Fort Thomas, and Brighton Center in Newport.

She is survived by her son and his family, William Duncan and Ann C. Montgomery Pladies of California, Kentucky, her daughter and her family, Ann Gex and George Lee of Fort Thomas, two grandchildren and their families, Anthony Gex and Jessica Lee and Mark Pladies Lee, and one greatgrandchild, Julia Gex Lee.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, who died in 1982.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 8, at 3:30 p.m. at the Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home in Fort Thomas. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. A memorial service will also be held in the Les Cheneaux area in August.

Memorials may be sent to the Les Cheneaux Ambulance Auxiliary, the Campbell County Animal Shelter, or the Brighton Center.
