Charles L. "Charlie" Senecal, 61, of Grand Marais, served in the United States Navy and Coast Guard. Mr. Senecal died Friday, May 26, 2006, in Grand Marais.

He was born May 11, 1945, in Grand Marais to Edward and Lavina (nee Burkett) Senecal.

He was a 1964 graduate of Burt Township High School. He served in the United States Navy and the United States Coast Guard, and later enjoyed his travels around the country to visit his many brothers and sisters before he finally settled down in Grand Marais.

"Charlie," as he was known to all, was an avid student of history, current events, and homespun philosophy.

He is survived by siblings and their families, Ed and Phyllis of Portland, Paul of St. Louis, Missouri, Marla Overlin of Grand Marais, Del Ryter of Schaumburg, Illinois, Charlene Bamford of Redmond, Washington, Trisha and Race Jones of Anchorage, Alaska, Joe and Pia of Bakersfield, California, John of Grand Marais, and Beth and Bob Micander of McMillan, and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Floyd Joseph.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Grand Marais with Father Paul Karottekunnel officiating. Rite of Committal followed at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. Friends called at the church Friday, June 2, from 10 a.m. until time of the mass.

Memorials may be directed to the Holy Rosary Catholic Church or the Grand Marais Senior Citizens.

Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry assisted the family.
