Sandy and Joe Durm are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. Sandy and Joe Durm are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. Joe and Sandy Durm of St. Ignace will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary Sunday, June 11, in St. Ignace.

The Durms have lived in St. Ignace since 1996, and members of the Durm family have been summer cottagers here since 1917, when Mr. Durm's father purchased a Pointe LaBarbe cabin from the Obeshaw family.

The family returned to Pointe LaBarbe every summer over the years, and many relatives joined Joe and Sandy Durm there for their honeymoon trip in 1966.

High school sweethearts who met on a blind date, the couple grew up in Niles and were married there June 11, 1966. Maid of honor was the groom's sister, Marge Durm Hiatt, best man was Fred Leidy, and serving as altar boy at the wedding was nephew Jim Durm, now of Brevort Township.

The Durms' four children and their families are Jeff and Tammy Durm of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jennifer and Dr. Jake Graney of San Diego, California, Thomas Durm of Niles, and Steven Durm of St. Ignace. Their four grandchildren are Rachel Thomas, Jack and Sam Durm, and Jadan Graney.

The Durms invite friends to their St. Ignace coffee shop, Java Joe's, for a slice of anniversary cake Sunday, June 11, between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
