Pickford Panthers girls team won the Division 3 championship during the Upper Peninsula State Finals. Pickford Panthers girls team won the Division 3 championship during the Upper Peninsula State Finals. The Pickford girls used a balanced effort to race to the Division 3 track and field championships during the Upper Peninsula Finals in Kingsford Saturday, June 3.

The Panthers tallied 80.5 points, followed by Rapid River with 69, Cedarville 57, Lake Linden 52, Ontonagon 51, Bark River-Harris 36, Engadine 30, L'Anse 25, North Central 22, Big Bay de Noc 20, Brimley and Bessemer 18, Crystal Falls-Forest Park 17, Mid Peninsula 12, North Dickinson and Carney-Nadeau 8, Dollar Bay 2, and Superior Central 1.5.

Pickford: Jasmine Ledy won the 1600-meter run in 5:33.38 and the 3200-meter run in 12:24.23 and finished third in the 800-meter run to lead the Panthers.

Caitlin Mortinsen placed second in the 200 and 400-meter dashes and fifth in the 100-meter dash. Jessie Ledy took third in the pole vault and fifth in the long jump. Katie Jenkins was fourth in the shot put, Courtney Bruni fourth in the low hurdles, Renae Reich fifth in the high jump, and Veronica Gough sixth in the high hurdles.

The Panthers 1600-meter relay team of Stephanie Savoie, Gough, Mortinsen, and Bruni took second. The 400-meter relay foursome of Veronica Morrison, Jessie Ledy, Reich, and Gough finished third, and the 800-meter relay group of Jesse Ledy, Gough, Morrison, and Reich took fourth.

Set Three Records

The Cedarville 3200-meter relay team of Lindsay McLeod, Ashley Sweeney, Katie Bowlby, and Lauren Izzard set a new meet record with a time of 10:20.07. The 1600-meter foursome of Billie McLeod, Lindsay McLeod, Lauren Izzard, and Katie Bowlby established a new meet and school record with a time of 4:20.26.

Karissa Schlosser finished second in the 1600-meter run and third in the 3200-meter run. Marcie Mason was third in the high jump, Kristin Duman took fourth in the high hurdles and sixth in the low hurdles, and Billie McLeod took fourth in the 400-meter dash. Ashley Sweeney finished fourth in the 3200-meter run and sixth in the 1600-meter run. Katie Bowlby was sixth in the long jump, and the 400meter relay team of Megan Hill, Rosemary Hitchins, Billie McLeod, and Kristin Duman took sixth.

Engadine: The Eagles 3200meter relay team of Elicia Derusha, Lindsey Weger, Brenda Albrecht, and Kristen Derusha placed second with a time of 10:26.96. Elicia Derusha was second in the 800meter run and fourth in the 1600meter run. Shauni Rutledge came in third in the shot put, and Jasmin Rodriguez fourth in the discus.

Brimley: Katey Kingsbury won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:29.49 and finished fifth in the 400-meter dash. The Bays 800meter relay team of Rachel Carruthers, Jenna Somes, Molly McIntyre, and Katey Kingsbury placed third.
