Garden Club Presents Tours at Six Sites in Engadine, Naubinway
Experienced and novice gardeners will find ideas on display at six Engadine and Naubinway gardens open for public touring this Saturday, August 5. The West Mackinac Garden Club is sponsoring the tours, which will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m.
The gardens will feature highlights like creative wood arbors, stone walkways, white picket fences, deer-proof ornamentals, and traditional plantings. Several gardens feature raised beds to provide the enriched soil needed for vegetable gardening. A terraced garden at the shore of a Lake Michigan home can provide ideas for landscaping on a hilly location.
Five of the Garden Club members have completed the Michigan State University Extension Master
Gardener program, and information will be available about the program for others who want to expand their gardening knowledge.
Garden club members most recently enjoyed a June workshop session in creating garden hose wreaths, which will be for sale at the tour headquarters, the Engadine United Methodist Church, at W13970 Park Avenue in Engadine.
A salad and dessert luncheon will be provided by club members at the church from noon until 2 p.m.
Tickets are $8, and can be purchased from any club member or at the Engadine United Methodist Church Saturday, August 5.
Additional information can be obtained by calling club presidents Caroll Harper at (906) 477-6163 or Karen McKay at (906) 477-6368.
