What more can one say about our lovely summer? It has been wonderful, but you can notice the days are getting shorter. All the more reason to get outdoors as much as you can. I keep thinking of those short days coming up.

Visitors at the home of Sally Conklin this past week were her son and family, Ed Conklin, his wife, Sara, and sons, Henry and Emmet, all of Los Angeles, California.

Ellen Berry of Clarkston was at her condominium last weekend. She and her husband, Bob, will be moving up permanently in September.

Taffy Coffey arrived at the Coffey cottage last Saturday. Her grandson, Aaron, is staying with Taffy to enjoy the last few weeks of summer.

Jim and Ann Dyer were in Charlevoix for the Lions Club past district governors convention. I understand there was an arts and crafts fair going on.

Mary Ann First is busy canning pickles. It's that time of year.

Paul and Tammi Shepard are the proud parents of a baby boy named Ethan. Mother and baby are doing fine, as is the proud dad.

Brian and Jeannie Rose were very busy at the restaurant this past weekend. Last year, during this particular weekend, they were downstate attending the wedding of their daughter, Kari, to Jamal Kasar. Happy anniversary to Kari and Jamal.

Pega and John Kennedy journeyed to the Cheboygan County Fair last weekend.

Roger and Sara Knight of Boulder, Colorado, have been guests of Roger's parents, Gordon and Pat Knight of Wildwood Lane. The beaches along Lake Michigan in this area have a lot of rocks owing to low water, and it makes it difficult to get to the sandbars to swim. Over the summer, Pat and Gordon have moved rocks in the lake to make a nice two-foot-wide path to the sandbar. They mark the start of the path with a bench on the beach.

Saturday morning cyclists were Dave and Charlene Kull. They wheeled in as I was just sitting on the front porch, awaiting anyone who might stop to chat. The Kulls

have a condominium here in the village and are from the Brighton area.

Dave Movalson Jr. celebrated his birthday Saturday, August 12, here at Grandpa's house. Guests were Jake and Mary Weiss with their son, Jake, Gloria and Rick Weber, Bob Flora, Lee Quigley, Lorie Quigley, Kay Allott, Fred and Terry Green, and Renee Green.

Kay Allott and her cocker spaniel, Tilli, were guests of Lee Quigley over the weekend.

Dennie and Jackie Rippett and friends boarded the Mackinac Island ferry at Mackinaw City to go to the boat show in Hessel Saturday, August 12. The boat made stops at the Island to pick up more passengers. After the boat show they then cruised the Les Cheneaux Islands. The boat docked in Mackinaw City at 6 p.m.

Jackie and Dennie Rippett traveled to Marquette to visit friends Sunday, August 13.

Mary Lou and Frank Hogan are at their condominium after a long absence owing to Frank's convalescing. He's looking well.

It's always nice to see Rex Hooper when we go to the city. We almost always see Gladys Tamlyn. I don't know if we have some mental telepathy, but it happens often.

Whenever I report the happenings at Joan and Mark Spencer's, usually Tammy Spencer is also there. If Joan doesn't mention her name, I don't remember. Tammy is now associated with Edward Jones in St. Ignace.

Dave and I continue to enjoy fishing on Big Brevoort Lake. When we took Zach and Amanda fishing, Zach would always want to hold the fish we caught. We finally learned why, after he told his mom that the fish did not bite him. In planning our day, remarks were made as to where the fish were biting - you know the talk that goes on before venturing out to fish. Zach thought the fish would bite us.

Jake Weiss, basketball player, joined us and Fred Green on Sunday for a few hours of fishing. We had moderate luck. I sure don't like those catfish, even though they're fun to catch.
