Tribal Pow-wow Planned for This Week at Hessel
The 14th annual Hessel Powwow is planned for Friday, August 18, Saturday, August 19, and Sunday, August 20, at the corner of Three Mile Road and Old St. Ignace Road, next to the casino in Hessel.
The pow-wow is open to the public and there is no admission fee.
Events will begin Friday with a spiritual gathering and potluck dinner at 5 p.m. Those who attend are asked to bring a dish to pass.
On Saturday, tribal dancers will make two Grand Entries, one at 1 p.m. and one at 7 p.m., followed by a feast supper. Tribal members request no photographs be taken during the Grand Entry or during honor songs.
A Grand Entry is planned for Sunday at 1 p.m.
Native American crafts and traditional food will be offered during the weekend.
The event is coordinated by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
