Recreation, Ski Hill Millages Approved at Moran Township
Moran Township residents passed a renewal millage of 0.25 mills for the city's recreation program, which will allow township children to participate in St. Ignace recreation programs free. The August 8 primary election attracted 106 voters with 62 in favor. There are 916 registered voters in the township.
The four-year millage will generate about $18,578 the first year.
The millage also provides the township's portion of funding for Doc Holle's Silver Mountain ski
and tubing hill. The township and the city jointly pay for activities and maintenance of the facility.
As the city recreation board struggles with funding its recreation program, and with more activities being offered at Silver Mountain, a separate board to run operations at the ski hill is being formed, said Moran Township Clerk Kris Vallier. The board will include the Moran Township supervisor, the St. Ignace mayor, one resident of the city, and one resident of the township.
