Clark Township Fire and

Ambulance Equipment Millage

One mill will be levied against all Clark Township properties in the winter 2006 tax billing cycle, following voter approval of the request. Clark Township residents voted 308-125 in favor of the new millage. The millage will raise $167,416 in new tax money, and the revenue will be used with approximately $180,000 from the Clark Township emergency services equipment replacement fund to buy a new ambulance vehicle and a water tanker truck for the fire department.

Pickford Bus Bond Millage

Voters in the Pickford Public Schools district voted 180-129 in favor of levying 0.85 mill (85

cents for every $1,000 of taxable property value) for four years to raise a total of $200,000, or approximately $50,000 a year, over the next four years for the purchase of three new buses. The total number of votes includes Marquette Township in Mackinac County and three Chippewa County townships.

Superintendent Keith Krahnke said that if property values continue to rise, the millage rate will be reduced over the remaining three years to collect only enough to buy the buses. The district hasn't purchased a bus since 2001, and there aren't sufficient operational funds to cover the purchase of the buses without further cutting services or programs, Mr. Krahnke said.
