All Millages Get OK in Chippewa County
Results of the Chippewa County Primary Election on millage proposals in The St. Ignace News coverage area follow:
Bruce Township Roads
Township residents voted 14054 to levy one mill a year for four years for improving and maintaining township roads. The millage is expected to raise $53,000 a year through 2009.
Bruce Township Road Improvement
Bruce Township voters approved the millage request to pave roads over the next four years, voting 106-88 in favor of the 1.5-mill levy. The term of the millage is the tax years of 2006 to 2009. The millage will raise an estimated $79,500.
Chippewa County Fixed Millage Proposal
County residents voted 1,9101,174 to approve the county's fixed millage proposal, setting the millage rate for Chippewa County services at 6.15 mills; township operating allocation at 1.65 mills, and Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School district rate at .20 mill. The rates are set for four years.
Chippewa County Recycling Program
Voters elected 2,391-78 to renew the .5 mill levy against county properties to raise an estimated $448,600 a year for the county-wide recycling program. The term of the millage is four years, starting in 2006.
Chippewa County Fire and Ambulance
Voters approved the proposal to renew the county's .4293-mill levy to provide county-wide fire and ambulance services and training. They voted 2,435-737 in favor of the measure. The levy will raise an estimated $375,000 a year, and 35 percent of the money will be spent on administration, training, and communications operations, while 65 percent will be disbursed to all municipalities in Chippewa County, in amounts based on their taxable value. The term of the millage is four years, including 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009.
Drummond Island General Operations
Drummond Island residents voted 198-92 in favor of new millage for general operations. They approved a one-mill levy for six years, including 2006 through 2011, which will provide approximately $85,043 a year in additional operating funds for the township.
Kinross Township Road Maintenance
Residents approved a proposal to renew the 1.5-mill levy against township properties to provide approximately $58,700 a year for road maintenance and repair. Votes were 168-104 in favor of the measure, which will provide funds for four years, from 2006 to 2009.
Pickford Township Roads Pickford Township residents approved the proposal to renew the township's three-mill levy against properties to provide money for road improvements and services. They voted 149-51 in favor of the measure. Three mills in Pickford Township generates approximately $110,000 a year, and will be levied for the next four years, from 2006 to 2009.
Pickford Township Emergency Services
Residents also approved renewing a 1.5-mill levy to provide money to buy emergency service equipment and make related improvements to services and facilities. They voted 151-48 in favor of the proposal, and approximately $56,000 a year will be generated for the period from 2006 to 2009.
Raber Township Road Improvements
The proposal to renew the township's ability to levy two mills a year for five years, from 2007 to 2011, was approved 71-32 by Raber Township voters. The millage will generate about $64,000 a year for road improvements and maintenance.
Rudyard Township Road Blacktop
Rudyard Township residents voted 108-31 in favor of renewing a two-mill levy for road improvements in the township. The millage will generate approximately $58,000 a year, and will be levied for three years, from 2006 to 2008.

Voters there also approved renewing a one-mill levy for blacktopping roads, voting 110-30 in favor of the proposal. The millage will generate about $29,000 for the improvements to township roads. The millage will be levied for three years, starting in 2006 and continuing through 2008.
