Three area athletes, Matt Stempki of St. Ignace, Eli Urman of Mackinac Island, and Derek Chamberlain of Newberry, are members of the 2006 Alma College Scots football team.

Stempki, playing in his final season recorded 40 solo tackles, 24 assists, and one pass interception from his position as linebacker and returned one kick for 10 yards in 2005.

Chamberlain, a junior, rushed for 139 yards, scored one touchdown, had two receptions for 10 yards, and returned one kick for 14 yards.

Urman, a sophomore, did not record high school statistics because his high school did not have a football program.

The Scots finished 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) last year and will open the new season against Cornell College and the University of Wisconsin EauClaire.

The Maroon and Cream will battle Wittenberg University of Ohio and open MIAA play with home contests against Hope, Albion, and Adrian.
