Fettig Chosen To Represent County in Run
Lani Fettig of Moran has been selected to represent Mackinac County as a fitness ambassador in the third annual Mackinac Bridge Labor Day Run Monday, September 4, set begin at 6:45 a.m. She will be part of a group of 300 joggers pre-selected by Governor Jennifer Granholm's Council on Physical Fitness, Health, and Sports.
One fitness ambassador is chosen from each of the state's 83 counties as part of the council's Active Michigan Summer program. The program is designed to encourage Michigan residents to exercise.
"I have grown up in the St. Ignace area and I love it here," said Mrs. Fettig. "The entire town has seen me change and mature through the years. The town has been so supportive of my marathon training and fundraising."
Mrs. Fettig said she recently lost 45 pounds, in part, through running.
"Everyone has seen the positive effect that it has had on me. I believe that it is very important to allow everyone the opportunity to find what they enjoy and maintain it throughout their lives," she said. "Running has been that for me."
Two other Mackinac County residents, Ralph Colegrove and Gerald Morningstar, will join the runners, who will head out just minutes before the traditional Mackinac Bridge walk begins. They were chosen in a lottery of individuals who had participated in at least one running event endorsed by the governor's council prior to July 30.
