Lora Brown, Kevin Matson Capture St. Ignace Golf Club Championships
Lora Brown and Kevin Matson became first-time champions after capturing individual titles at the St. Ignace Golf Club Saturday, August 19, and Sunday, August 20.
Brown, who carded 91 (47-44) Saturday, came from behind after trailing by five shots as play was completed and tallied an 84 (4242) Sunday for an 36-hole score of 175. Cheryl Schlehuber finished second with 179, followed by Ruth Visnaw with 185, Cindy Brown 187, and Sandy Krause 188.
Matson, who recorded 70 (3634) Saturday, was three shots back and notched 74 (36-38) Sunday for a 36-hole score of 144 to edge out Joe Brown with 145 for second place, and Matt Mortensen 147 for third place in the championship flight.
Charlie Brown won the first flight with 154, Mike Bishop came in second at 158, and Chris Matson took third with 162. Tom Coveyou Jr. finished first in the second flight with 158, Mort Becker second at 162, and Joe Visnaw third with 163. Rich Frazier won the fourth flight with 175, Lloyd Matson finished second at 178, and Chum Frazier was third at 179.
