Cally Klimczak and Jamie Krug, seniors at LaSalle High School (LHS), will close out their final season as trainers for the St. Ignace Saints football and girls basketball teams.

Both girls moved to St. Ignace from different school districts and have found homes at LHS. Klimczak, in her fourth year on the training staff, moved to St. Ignace from Alpena before she entered fifth grade and Krug, beginning her third season, came from Tennessee late in her seventh grade year.

Chad Davis, physical therapist at Mackinac Straits Hospital, recruited both girls and convinced them to get involved in the athletic training field.

Klimczak would like to continue with an athletic training career while at college, either at Central Michigan University or Ferris State University.

"You learn something new each day in this field," said Klimczak. "What you learn can be used in everyday life situations."

Biology and health classes were her favorite classes. She has played softball and volleyball during her high school career, along with being involved in the drama club, yearbook, student council, playing the piano and guitar, and volunteer work at the hospital.

The daughter of Lori and Fred Strich of St. Ignace and Ed Klimczak of Alpena is also the trainer for the Lady Saints basketball team and works at Thunderbird Gifts on Mackinac Island during the summer months.

Krug is a standout on the Saints softball team and has enjoyed the time as a trainer.

"You learn about injuries and little things that can happen on the athletic field," said Krug.

She has played eight years on the softball diamond and will begin her senior season in 2007. Advanced mathematics and chemistry were her favorite classes during her junior year and she is looking forward to independent study and work experience during her senior year.

The daughter of Kayla and Jim Krug would like to continue her softball career at the collegiate level and study either corporate or public relations. During the summer, she is a certified lifeguard at the St. Ignace pool, works for her parents at the Travelers Hotel, waits table at Hillside Restaurant, and works for Arnold Line. She has a 27-year-old brother who lives in Dallas, Texas.
