Sonja Duncan is no stranger to the varsity coaching ranks in the Eastern Upper Peninsula, but the former basketball standout at Cedarville High School (CHS) and Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) will have her first opportunity to coach varsity basketball at her alma mater.

Veteran coach Tom Wilson stepped down from coaching last spring after leading the Trojans to more than 300 victories during his tenure, which lasted 23 years and built a strong winning tradition.

Duncan, who coached during the 1991 and 1992 seasons at Pickford and five years at Rudyard from 1995 to 1999, will carry on the tradition at CHS.

"Tom built a strong program and I hope to carry on the winning tradition," said Coach Duncan. "He left a strong and energetic squad."

The new coach will build her first Trojans squad with five returnees, led by Emily Feldhake in her fourth season. The senior center earned AllUpper Peninsula, All-Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference (EUPC), and The St. Ignace News All-Area Team honors last year.

Remaining returnees include senior Lindsay McLeod at forward/center and sophomore Jessie Duncan at guard, who both received All-Area honors last season. Senior Kara Griffin, at guard/forward, returns for her final season at CHS.

First-year varsity players include juniors Katie Bowlby, Caitlin Wright, Megan Hill, Carissa Sudol, and Felicia Brant, and sophomore Billie McLeod. The Trojans will be in the

hunt for the EUPC title along with Engadine, Pickford, DeTour, and Brimley and play a tough non-league schedule with Rudyard, St. Ignace, Posen, Harbor Light Christian, Big Bay de Noc, Pellston, and Mackinaw City. CEDARVILLE TROJANS
