Shawn Prater of Oxford was a former St. Ignace resident who owned his own contracting business, Prater Builders. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge 21 in Pontiac.

Mr. Prater died at the age of 43 Sunday, August 20, at his home near Oxford.

He was born December 16, 1962, in St. Ignace, to Thomas and Judith (nee Cartwright) Prater.

He married Diane Hester in Bloomfield Township September 22, 1990.

Mr. Prater is survived by his wife; his parents and their spouses, Tom and Joyce Prater of Struble Lake and Judith and Mark Butkovich of Moran; a brother, Tom Prater of West Bloomfield; a sister and her family, Dawn and Billy Miller of Fenton, and a grandmother, Rosella Prater of Garnet.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Cecil Prater in 2003, and by a sister, Marsha in 1961.

Services were Tuesday, August 29, at the Rexton Mennonite Church in Rexton. Pastor Tim Miller officiated.

Burial was in Caffey Cemetery in Rexton.

Visitation was at Dodson Funeral Home Monday, August 28.

Pallbearers were Tom Prater Jr., Andrew Kerr, Joe Hamilton, Chris Holtz, John Brady, Patrick Laford, Terry Mulligan, and Rick Gobel.
