Pete Lawlor Rudyard Pete Lawlor Rudyard Rudyard scored on its first possession and never looked back as the Bulldogs shut out Harbor Springs 20-0 Friday, August 25.

"I was pleased with the outcome, especially the defense getting the shut out," said Bulldogs Coach Pat Maloney.

Owen McGrath led the Black and Orange defense with 10 tackles and one fumble recovery. Brady Burby added eight stops, Marcus Chantos chipped in seven, Lee Stevens notched six, James Perry tallied five, Jeff Briggs charted four with one sack and one fumble recovery, Dan Bartley counted four, John Manitowabi marked three with one sack, and Pete Lawlor registered two tackles, one interception, and one fumble recovery.

David Kelly led the balanced ground game for the Bulldogs with 70 yards. Perry added 59, Lawlor chipped in 57 rushing yards and one reception for five yards, McGrath notched 55 rushing yards and completed two of nine passes for 41 yards, Dan Bartley caught one pass for 36 yards, Burby tallied 23 yards, and Robert McKerchie charted 22 yards.

Burby scored from one yard out for the Bulldogs' first touchdown of the season on the opening extra point for a 7-0 lead.

Lawlor, on defense, intercepted the Rams pass and dashed 46 yards for the score and Briggs chipped in his second extra point kick as the Bulldogs increased the lead to 14-0 at halftime.

Rudyard extended the lead to 20-0 in the third quarter after Kelly rambled 50 yards for the Bulldogs final touchdown while the defense kept the Rams out of the endzone.

The Bulldogs will play the second of four road games with a nonconference contest at Elk Rapids Thursday, August 31.
