Engadine Drops MEFC Football Opener to Mid-Peninsula, 31-12
David Derusha Engadine Engadine and Mid Peninsula battled tooth and nail for 45 of the 48 minutes before the Wolverines took control with two late touchdowns and downed the Eagles 3112 Friday, August 25.
"I felt we played well at times, but overall it was a good team effort," said Eagles Coach Howard Hood. "We have some injuries to key veteran players and that has made the coaching staff play some younger players."
Grayson Hood led the Eagles offense with 115 yards on 28 carries. Stefen Albright added 57 rushing yards and completed two of four passes for 24 yards, Sung Hart notched 22 yards, Dylan Duflo chipped in 16 yards, and David Derusha caught the two passes for 24 yards.
On the defensive side of the football, Derusha and Hood led the Eagles with six tackles, Duflo added five with one fumble recovery, Chris Keller chipped in five, Ron Weger and Michael Mast tallied four, and Hart charted two with one fumble recovery.
After a scoreless first quarter, Sung Hart recovered the Wolverines fumble that set up the Grayson Hood one-yard touchdown at the 11:06 mark, for a 6-0 lead.
The visitors from Mid Peninsula scored consecutive touchdowns in the second quarter for a 12-6 halftime advantage. With 2:10 left in the third quarter, the Wolverines margin to 18-6.
Engadine put together a long scoring drive in the fourth quarter and with 3:25 on the clock, Hood dove over from two yards out to cut the Wolverines' lead to 18-12.
Mid Peninsula took control with touchdowns at the 3:11 mark and closed out the scoring at 1:21 to clinch the win.
Engadine travels to Cedarville to face the Trojans in a MEFC contest Friday, September 1.
Bays Fall to Broncos
in MEFC First Game
Brimley fell to Bark-River Harris (BRH) 41-0 in the first ever MidEastern Football Conference (MEFC) game played Thursday, August 24. The MEFC is a combined league of the Eastern Upper Peninsula and Wolverine Conferences.
The Bays rushed for 41 yards and passed for 31 yards, while Noel Bruce led the Broncos with 205 yards on the ground and scored four touchdowns. The BRH defense forced seven turnovers and added 10 quarterback sacks.
Brimley will travel to Pickford to face the Panthers in a MEFC matchup Friday, September 1.
