Trojans Cruise Past Rockets in MEFC Homecoming Matchup

Peter Treleaven Cedarville Peter Treleaven Cedarville Cedarville High School (CHS), 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the league, scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns and the Trojans defense kept Rapid River out of the end zone until the final 23 seconds, en route to a 33-6 Mid-Eastern Football Conference victory Friday, September 15.

CHS celebrated homecoming and seniors Rebecca Bickham and Justin Baker were crowned queen and king during halftime ceremonies.

"I was pleased with our overall play, especially our pass defense that we worked on during the week, and our pass and running offense was positive," said Trojans Coach Randy Schaedig.

Peter Treleaven completed six of 12 passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Jason Duncan had three receptions for 43 yards and one score, Jake Wellnitz added one reception for 39 yards and one touchdown, Matt Hansen chipped in one reception for 31 yards, and Jordan Duncan tallied one catch for 16 yards.

Justin Baker rushed for 166 yards on 22 carries, Matt Hansen chipped in 80 yards on 13 attempts, and Jake Wellnitz notched 40 yards on five carries.

On the defensive side, Hansen led the way with 11 tackles, Baker added nine with a pass interception, Jimmy Eberts and Jordan Duncan chipped in seven, Treleaven notched six with a pass interception, Jordan Sweeney, Joe Currie, and Sheldon Tassier (sack and interception), Keith Foster (fumble recovery), and Ryan Pollard charted four, Jason Duncan and Paul Eberts marked three, and Michael Pollard counted two with two sacks.

After a scoreless first quarter, Treleaven and Wellnitz combined on a 39-yard scoring pass at 11:15 of the second period and Jason Duncan kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

In the closing 2:13 of the first half, the Trojans drove 71 yards on six plays. Baker scored from 10 yards out with 39 on the clock for a 13-0 halftime advantage.

The third quarter went scoreless before C e d a r v i l l e answered with three touchdowns in the final period, as Hansen scored one on a 10-yard run at 11:18 and Duncan added the extra point for a 20-0 margin.

The fourth touchdown drive started with a Tassier pass interception followed by a fake punt before Treleaven hooked up with Jason Duncan on a 15-yard scoring pass at 7:14. With the extra point, the Trojans increased the lead to 27-0.

Wellnitz scored the final Cedarville touchdown on a 33-yard run with 5:30 left in the game, and the Rockets scored in the closing 23 seconds.

Cedarville will travel to Brimley Saturday, September 23, for an MEFC game against the Bays.

Trojans JV Downs Sault Frosh

Cedarville junior varsity football team defeated the Sault freshmen 44-12 Thursday, September 7.

C.J. Paquin led the Trojans offense with five of six passing for 78 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 91 yards and one score. Kaleb Barbeaux caught one pass for 40 yards with one score and rushed for 11 yards, and Luke Murray had three receptions for 33 yards and one touchdown.

Tyler Anderson gained 66 yards on nine attempts, one pass completion for 18 yards, and caught one pass for five yards. Wade Autore rushed for 41 yards and had one reception for 18 yards, and Andrew Jaroche charted 27 yards on five attempts.

Jordan Huff led the defense with 11 tackles and one sack. Jaroche chipped in nine stops. Taylor Smith, Anderson (fumble recovery), and Autore notched seven tackles, Murray and Barbeaux charted six, Paquin tallied four, Alex McMaken and Darrell

LaPoint marked three, Josh Wilson counted two, and Harry Reinfelder marked one.
