LaSalle Competes in First SAC Meet
Jake Weiss St. Ignace LaSalle High School boys finished fifth and the girls sixth during the first Straits Area Conference (SAC) cross country meet of the season Tuesday, September 12, at Rogers City.
This is the first of three SAC jamboree meets with league members that include St. Ignace, Cedarville, Pickford, Rudyard, Newberry, Sault High, Rogers City, and Cheboygan.
"I was pleased with the effort of our runners in the first league meet," said Saints Coach Holly Brown.
Boys Division
Sault High finished first with 31 points, while Rogers City took second with 80 points. Rudyard notched 95, Cheboygan 123, St. Ignace 128, Cedarville 134, Newberry 157, and Pickford 292.
Jake Weiss led the Saints after placing ninth in 19:24.93, while Dan Olsen finished in 20:06.83, Kaiden Shiemke in 20:55.91, Kevin Guillard in 21:44.87, Shane Spring in 21:49.91, Eric Hinsman in 25:19.71, Lee Kelso in 26:50,31, and Lewis Steiner in 30:23.83.
Jordan Sweeney placed 13th 19:57.33 to lead the Trojans. Sheldon Tassier finished in 20:30.25, Luke Murray in 20:52.39, Jim Eberts in 21:43.62, Clayton Myers in 21:55.97, Adam Dingman in 23:13.39, and Alex McMaken in 24:01.04.
Kristen Olsen St. Ignace Nic Raden completed the course in 19:58.26 for 14th place to lead the Panthers. Pat Savoie finished in 24:30.06 and Raymond Hill in 28:31.73.
Girls Division Sault High won the girls class with 33 points, followed by C h e b o y g a n with 47, Newberry 89, the host Hurons 115, Rudyard 127, St. Ignace 194, Pickford 277, and Cedarville 306.
Erica Ahlich placed 18th to lead the Saints with a time of 24:55.43, followed by Stevie Gould in 26:15.98, Ivy Thurston in 26:48.44, and Sara Tafelski in 27:35.51
K r i s t e n S c h m i t i g a l placed 27th to lead Pickford, while Holly Womdergem finished in 2 8 : 3 4 . 4 3 , Kaylynn Portice in 31:36.10, and Alysha Bjunes in 34:12.34.
Rebecca Gregg took 26th place in 25:56.50 and Katie Eberts finished in 29:45.87.
Saints Boys Third, Girls Fourth
at Ellsworth Invitational
St. Ignace boys finished third and the girls placed fourth in the Class B/C Division of the Ellsworth Invitational Saturday, September 16. The top 20 runners in each division earned medals.
Erica Ahlich St. Ignace Dan Olsen placed 14th with a time of 19:11, Jake Weiss 18th in 19:29, Kaiden Shiemke in 19:45, Shane Spring in 21:28, Kevin Guillard in 21:31, Eric Hinsman in 24:00, and Lee Kelso in 24:59.
Kristen Olsen was the top finisher for the girls in 16th place in 25:28. Ivy Thurston placed 17th in 25:44, Paige Paul 19th in 25:52, Stevie Gould in 26:11, Sara Tafelski in 26:13, and Stacy Goldthorpe in 29:17. Panthers, Trojans, Raiders,
Comets in Class D Division
Pickford girls placed third and the Mackinaw City boys took third, followed by DeTour boys in fourth, and Pickford boys in fifth place during the Ellsworth Invitational.
Jasmine Ledy finished second for the Panthers with a time of 21:20. Megan Arbic placed 17th in 23:46, Callie Smith 18th in 23:53, Jamie Riffenberg in 24:12, and Kaylynn Portice in 28:33.
Kara Griffin of Cedarville took fourth place with a time of 22:30, Rebecca Gregg finished in 24:22, and Laura Fussman of DeTour was timed in 24:38
Ciara McVey of Mackinaw City placed sixth in 22:40, Kristina Heilman in 27:19, and Andrea Heilman in 29:04.
David Mercer led Mackinaw City with a fifth place finish in 17:25. Brandyn Clemens placed seventh in 18:01, Kevin Darrow ninth in 18:16, Chris Laninga 17th in 19:12, Spencer McFarland in 19:30, Barry Paquet in 20:17, and Micha Keller in 20:27.
DeTour was led by Teryn Miller in 14th place with a time of 18:48. Stan Stocking finished in 18:55, Tom Warden 19th in 19:27, Chris Fussman in 20:23, Chris Livingston in 21:27, and Mat Peterson in 22:22.
Nic Raden was the top runner for Pickford with a 12th place finish in 18:41. Richard Gibson was 13th in 18:46, Dylan Rye 18th in 19:17, Pat Savoie in 22:00, and Raymond Hill in 26:44.
Cedarville was led by Luke Murray with a time of 19:39. Jimmy Eberts finished in 20:43, and Adam Dingman in 22:56.
