Steven 'Norman' Leshinsky

Steven "Norman" Leshinsky Steven "Norman" Leshinsky Steven "Norman" Leshinsky, 46, a Les Cheneaux Islands summer resident, passed away Thursday morning, September 21, 2006, at Bay Pines Veterans Administration Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Florida.

He was born to Edna Mae Chard May 30, 1960, in Youngstown, Ohio. He grew up in the Les Cheanux Islands, and was a 1979 graduate of Cedarville High School where he earned many honors in track and football.

Following graduation, he joined the United States Army, from which he retired March 24, 1982, after injuries left him a quadriplegic in a wheelchair for 25 years.

He was a winter resident of Largo, Florida, and a summer resident of Hessel.

Mr. Leshinsky is survived his mother, Edna Mae Chard of Hessel; three sisters and their families, Linda and Clifford Leon of Farmington Hills, Mary Beth Risk of Clearwater, Florida, and Stephanie and Paul Smith of Hessel; his lifelong friend, William "Bill" Sherlund of Cedarville; five nieces and nephews, Bill Leon, Joshua Risk, Makayla Risk, Julia Chard, and Reagan Smith, and one greatnephew.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Ann, and brother, John.

He has been cremated by the National Cremation Society.

Alocal, memorial celebration is being planned for the Runway Bar in Hessel at the end of September.

Memorial donations can be made to the Clark Township Fire Department or Ambulance Corps in Mr. Leshinsky's name.
