Wayne Shoberg

Wayne L. Shoberg of Scottsdale, Arizona, grew up "steeped in the automobile industry," according to family members, attending the General Motors Institute in Flint from 1955 to 1957, and moving on to sell automobiles for the next 40 years. He was a former Eastern Upper Peninsula resident. Mr. Shoberg died of cardiac arrest Sunday, October 1, 2006, at Mayo Hospital in Scottsdale, at the age of 69.

He was born September 16, 1937, in Sault Ste. Marie.

Following his education at the General Motors Institute, he returned home to run his family's automobile dealership, Lipsett Chevrolet in Pickford. In 1980, he moved to Globe, Arizona, where he sold automobiles for Cobre Valley Motors until his retirement in 1997.

Following retirement, he started an auction business with his wife, Johnette, and he remained an avid buyer and seller of coins and currencies.

He is remembered by his friends as a loving husband, proud father, and loyal friend. He was a civic-minded man, who served his communities as District Governor of the Upper

Peninsula Lions Club in the early 1970s, and as Ward 6 Councilman of the Globe City Council in the mid-1980s.

Mr. Shoberg is survived by his wife of 44 years, Johnette Shoberg of Globe; their four children and their families, Russ and Judi Shoberg of Windham, Maine, Tom Shoberg of Globe, John and Suzanne Shoberg of Kings Beach, California, and Frances Shoberg and Gail Browne of Tucson, Arizona, and three grandchildren, Viktor and Samuel Shoberg of Windham, and Sarah Shoberg of Kings Beach.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tigner and Frances Shoberg of Cedarville, and his brother, Vern Shoberg of Globe.

Memorial services will be at Disciples of Christ Church in Globe. Lamont Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Per his wishes, Mr. Shoberg provided anatomical gifts to Donor Network of Arizona. His ashes will be spread near Duck Bay in the Les Cheneaux Islands.
