Cedarville Remains Perfect on Season

Michael Pollard Cedarville Michael Pollard Cedarville After cruising to a 46-14 league win over North Central during parents night at Trojans Field Friday, October 6, Cedarville is gearing toward two Mid-Eastern Football Conference (MEFC) road showdowns with Pickford and North Dickinson. Both teams are undefeated.

The Trojans, 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the MEFC, battle rival Pickford (7-0 overall) Friday, October 13, and tangle with North Dickinson (7- 0 overall) Friday, October 20, to round out the their regular season.

Cedarville's offense compiled more than 480 yards in its win over the Jets, while 18 Trojans defensive players recorded tackles.

Justin Baker led the ground game with 160 yards on 18 carries. Jake Wellnitz added 131 yards on eight attempts, and Matt Hansen added 92 yards on 18 carries.

Peter Treleaven completed seven of 14 passes for 97 yards, while Jason Duncan caught three passes for 52 yards. He was followed by Jordan Sweeney, who had two receptions for 22 yards, Matt Hansen, who caught one pass for 20 yards, and Jordan Duncan, who caught a three-yard pass.

For the Trojans defense, Sheldon Tassier made seven tackles, James Mitchell added five tackles and one sack, Ryan Pollard and Baker chipped in four, Jimmy Eberts and Wellnitz notched three, Keith Foster, Jordan Duncan, Jason Duncan, Hansen, and Treleaven tallied two, and Michael Pollard, Paul Eberts, Joe Currie, Kevin Leach, Luke Murray, C.J. Paquin, and Sweeney each made one tackle.

The Trojans defense also forced a couple of turnovers. Eberts forced a fumble, which was recovered by Wellnitz, and Duncan had one interception.

Cedarville built a 25-0 half-time lead as Baker scored two first-quarter touchdowns on runs of 49 and five yards, and Jason Duncan kicked an extra point to put the Trojans up 13-0.

Wellnitz's fumble recovery set up Hansen's three-yard score at the six-minute mark of the second quarter and, with 2:11 remaining in the half, Treleaven connected with Sweeney on a 13-yard scoring strike for a 25-0 half-time advantage.

Baker, for the second consecutive week, returned a punt for a touchdown. On his second punt return, he scampered 70 yards to the endzone to put the Trojans in a comfortable 31-0 lead. Jason Duncan kicked the extra point to make the score 32-0.

The Trojans closed out its scoring with a one-yard touchdown plunge by Hansen and a 26-yard touchdown dash by Wellnitz before the Jets scored touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters.
