Tom Wilson Has Made Impact On Cedarville Student Athletes

Accomplishments Include Four Regional Titles

Tom Wilson Tom Wilson Tom Wilson has made an impact on student athletes at Cedarville High School (CHS) in the 23 years while on the bench for the Trojans girl's basketball team.

Coach Wilson stepped down as the girl's basketball and track coach after the 2005-06 season and will retire from the teaching staff following the 2006-07 school year.

During his 23-year tenure as the Trojans coach on the hardwood, Wilson has coached in 518 games and compiled a 318-150 overall record, winning 71 percent of his games, and headed the Trojans track team for 22 years.

The science, mathematics, physical education, and personal fitness teacher at Cedarville has coached more than 150 athletes while posting 21 winning campaigns with just two losing seasons.

Cedarville has won 14 round ball district championships and four regional crowns, four regional track titles (in 1993-1994-2004- 2005), two state runner-up spots (1991-1994), and two Upper Peninsula state crowns (1992- 1993) under Coach Wilson's tutelage.

Best Records-District Titles

The Trojans won district titles in the fall of 1979 with a 22-1 record, 1993, 19-4; 2005, 19-4; 1992, 19-5; 2002, 19-5; 2003, 18- 5; 1990, 17-6; 1994, 17-6; 1991, 17-7; 1998, 16-6; 1997, 15-7; 1996, 14-9; 1978, 13-9 and captured regional championships in 1978-1991-1992-1998.

The remaining record for the Trojans include 2001, 18-4; 1980, 17-4; 1981, 17-5; 2004, 16-6; 1984, 13-9; 2000, 13-9; 1983, 12- 11, 1982, 10-11, and 1999, 10-12.

Five players have played for the coach for all four years at CHS, including Laurie Griffin (1981 to 1984), Jennifer Sheckler, Caroline Cochran, Jenna Duncan (2000 to 2003), and Elizabeth Reno (2001 to 2004).

Family Connections

Two mother-daughter athlete combinations who played for Coach Wilson are Andi Stevenson (1978) and her twin daughters, Erin and Erika Paquin, and Sonja Paquin (1982) and her daughter, Jessie Duncan.

Coach Wilson, and his wife, Brenda, have two sons, Ryan and Anthony.
