St. Ignace Beats Newberry, Posts First SAC Win

Five players scored in double figures to help St. Ignace earn its first Straits Area Conference (SAC) boys basketball win with a 78-37 decision over Newberry Tuesday, December 19.
St. Ignace started out with sluggish play during the first eight minutes, with a 12-6 lead, before producing 66 points in the final three quarters.
"After the first quarter, we played much better," said Saints Coach Doug Ingalls. "I was pleased with our rebounding effort, as we had five players with five or more boards."
The Saints, 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the SAC, outscored the Indians 22-7 in the second quarter to build a 34-13 halftime lead, holding a 23-12 scoring advantage in the third period and a 21-12 scoring edge in the final eight minutes.
