Mackinaw City's defense and offense were both in high gear during the first half of its Northern Lakes Conference (NLC) contest against Wolverine. In the second half of the game, the Comets cruised to a 71-49 win Tuesday, December 19.

The Comets, 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the NLC, raced out to a 11-0 lead as the pressure defense forced turnovers and led to fast-break opportunities, resulting in a 28-4 Mackinaw City lead after the first quarter as Trevor Closs scored 10 points and Klaus Jaggi added eight.

Mackinaw City held a 14-13- scoring edge in the second quarter for a 42-17 halftime lead before the Wildcats outscored the Comets 32- 29 in the second half.

Wolverine scored 21 of its 49 points from the free throw line after connecting on 78 percent (21 of 27) from the free throw line.
