$44,440 Awarded for St. Marys Watershed Assessment Studies

Current conditions of the St. Marys watershed, desired conditions for the future, and conservation practices that will help achieve those conditions will be be assessed in a new project to get underway this year.

Planners for the Chippewa/ East Mackinac Conservation District and Natural Resources Conservation Service will meet with landowners and conservation groups, inventory agriculture in the watershed, and study new and existing conservation strategies that will be used to develop a long-term strategic plan.

The Conservation District anticipates starting work October 1.

The assessment is being funded with a $44,440 federal Rapid Watershed Assessment grant, so called because it is a quick assessment of watershed conditions.

The grant was awarded to only two areas in Michigan, the Eastern Upper Peninsula and Grayling.
