Ensign Fleet Posts Race Results From Three Competitions

The winner of the Les Cheneaux Ensign Class 31 Islander Trophy was the crew of AWOL, sailed by Sam Lincoln, Scott Graul, Trey Pendery, and Cameron Jones. Mr. Graul skippered AWOL, but has since moved to Florida, and will no longer sail this summer. The trophy is awarded to the sailors with the combined best scores from the races around LaSalle Island Saturday, July 1, and around Marquette Island Saturday, July 15.

A second place tie was won by the crew of Instinct, skippered by Jonas Carpenter, and Second Wind, skippered by Mark Birkmeier.

The crews of Water Dog, skippered by Al McNally, and AWOL, led by Scott Graul, shared the Horsburgh Trophy for combined scores of races to and from Mackinac Island Friday, July 7, and Saturday, July 8.

In the race from Cedarville to Mackinac Island Water Dog took first place, followed by AWOL in second and Instinct in third.

The race from Mackinac was won by AWOL, followed by Water Dog in second place and Second Wind in third.

Ensigns are 22.5-foot, fullkeeled sloops and the Les Cheneaux Islands are home to the nation's largest Ensign fleet. The Les Cheneaux Yacht Club sponsors Ensign races every week in July and August, with a final Labor Day weekend race scheduled for Saturday, September 2.

The next racing event will be the three-day regatta in Muskie Bay, between Cedarville and Marquette Island, Wednesday, August 2, through Friday, August 4.

Races are in Cedarville, usually starting in Muskie Bay.
